Thanks trout slayer. That was a good thread. i guess I have been guilty of bottom dreging in my time. Snagging really does suck. Nothing worse than dragging in an old boot.

Welcome aboard. Try to get out on the Vedder this week with some rain in the forcast short foating for coho will be top drawer. ;D ;D I can hardly wait for my first trip on Tuesday morning.
Get the popcorn ready for the report. ;D ;D

I'm heading in there on Thursday,,,,I usually use fresh pro-cure roe,, with a little wool. Is this good for coho?

Yes that is all you need, put in the time and you should have no trouble getting your share.

Forgot to ask,,when short floating are you using a shorter leader?? I usually use about 2 1/2 feet. thanks
-
18-24" is generally the norm.
-
what a great thread short floating. im gonna convert to short floating.heading up to the vedder on thurs with truck&camper to stay for 3 days. will be camped at tamahi besides the concession stand so feel free to drop by and say hi or just to sit a while and trade fish tips ;D ;D

Why is your friend selling Coca Cola instead of Pepsi ?

18"-20" or so is best. Much longer and your presentation whips around in the current.
I dont think a fish cares if it can see your weight. Think of all the sticks and other debris that is going by at any given moment and the weight will blend right in.
Going to be hitting the river tomorrow myself... ;D Cant wait!

Don't sleep in and I have 20 roe sacks tied and have the hot spot picked. The first coho of the season should be hitting the beach at 6:45. ;D ;D

I'm assuming he's reflecting what he did wrong this morning and is getting up the strength to go back tonight.

Anyone check the keith wilson area in the past couple hours ;D?

Sorry for the late report guys but computer was down due to house renovations.
Gordie 2:40 and I hit the river at first light at the hot spot and all we could find was a nice wild cutthroat that Gord took on one of the freshly tied up roe bags. As hard as we tried we were unable to make our floats go down again.
The only other fish we saw taken was a spring that looked like it was snagged by a long linner.
Slipped our again tonight with Gwyn and I only was able to foul hook a chum (short floating too :-[)
This is the longest into the season in 30 years on the Vedder without a coho although been out only 3 times but that is no excuse. Going out tomorrow and hopefully the drought will end.
