Today i was pulling up my prawn trap (400 feet of line 30 lb 5 foot commercial trap=tired arms!).It felt heavier than ushual. i thought it was a big bait stealing starfish. I pulled the trap to the boat and low and behold a big starfish. But i took a closer look when it got closer and i noticed it was to big and red to be a starfish. It was a massive octapus. probaly 6 foot legs with a basketball sized head. I have only seen them diving and i once caught one fishing but they were never close to this big. I looked at it for a bit then let it go. It ate every one of my prawns and judging by the shells i must of had 40. I have also caught 6 full grown dogfish that broke into one of my traps and ripped it to peices. In a crab trap i also caught half a dogfish. im guessing it was killed by a bunch of crabs when it got stuck in the trap. What have you guys caught. ???

Nothing too strange. Some jellyfish and starfish here and there.
Once caught a very sick looking crab. It had a lot of barnicles growing on it and mold and algae all over its body. I don't know how it got in, it looked very weak.
Your crabs got upset with the dogfish stealing its food :)

A couple of years ago, I pulled up some eel-like fish, not sure what they were, but they slipped through the netting when the trap was rested on the dock.

i know what a hag-fish is...it wasn't one of those...looked more like a snakefish type of thing.

A few years ago, while we were fishing on a dock on Salt Spring Island, a gentleman pulled up his crab trap and there was a gigantic pile perch flopping in it. :o

2 lb sea cucumber at ambleside..
i loved to eat seacumber in korea... however it was too gross..
it was a different kind of stuff that i loved.

The coolest thing i have caught would have to be a bullhead ;D

Government wharf in sooke about 20 years ago pulling up the trap and it was getting tugged all around, a young harbour seal had opened up the side and was raiding the trap, it was almost to the surface when it took off...really brave! Also a mermaids purse in one (stingray egg sac)...very cool. OH and once an old crabtrap.
