Title: Ladner carp September 5th
Post by: Rodney on September 05, 2004, 09:09:25 PM
After yesterday's consistent action, we decided to give carping another go today as not much else is happening. Fishersak decided to join us after seeing the photos. ;D He had yet to catch a carp or see any of us hook one.

Once everything was set up, Fishersak's rod bowed down and started to be dragged along the ground. :o The hook set was fast, but the fish was off instantly. Too bad!

Ten minutes later, Fishersak once again had a bite, this time a classic carp bite. The rod tip was being slowly pulled up and down. Fishersak set the hook and the fish immediately went into rocket mode. This fish decided to swim like a salmon and took out 60 feet or so of line, dodged into the weeds and stayed there for awhile. After some wrestling, the fish finally was brought to the net. A nice 3lb fish.

The next two hours, no action at all. Chrome Mykiss did miss three major takes, extremely frustrating. CM tested out his new strawberry flavoured bait today that seemed to be pretty good.

At 5:30pm, I lost one fish just after I set the hook. Ten minutes later, I landed a tiny one that still put up an ok fight on the 4lb test outfit.

Several things to note today:

Most of the fish lately have been caught during the middle of the day. Not much action towards the evening time. Lighting is not an issue as water clarity is already so bad anyways.

There seems to be a lot more smaller carp this year. These fish are fast bait pickers, so be prepared to strike when you start to detect small hits.

With the bigger fish, it's interesting that some will go for the big run immediately, while others will come into shore with you but wake up after awhile. Once they wake up, you'll spend another five to ten minutes fighting that fish.

Sounds like a good time! I was wondering if any of you would be down there today. I almost came and checked but got sidetracked. Too bad.

Willow, that's the big one from last year we told you about. It was caught at that same spot where Nina and I usually fish. ;) Most of these big ones have beautiful colouration. Despite what most would say, if you look at the contrast on the scales, fading on the fins, they are actually very cool looking.
