Title: River Clarity
Post by: dave c on January 06, 2026, 02:13:29 PM
Was out briefly Sunday and while i expected the river to be somewhat higher than normal, i was really taken aback by the poor clarity..... 6 inches at best.  I had heard about some washout near Tamahi.  With the cooler weather i was hoping it would clear up but upon looking at the crossing river camera it doesn't seem like it has cleared up very much.  Just itching to fish some water where the fish can see my presentation.

Looks like the Slesse Park claybank is the culprit.

It’s been many years since I fished that stretch of river. Little surprised to see that the berm that was built in the 1990’s has been obliterated.

Fred's reported there is a slide in the Tamihi Valley. Go upstream young man!
