Title: We hit a sunfish!
Post by: clarki on August 31, 2024, 08:43:19 PM
Got back yesterday from three days fishing in Kyuquot.

On Thursday we were motoring in from offshore after a very successful hunt on the hali and ling grounds when we hit something. There was a bang, the boat shuddered, and the engine even lifted a little. We were all startled and looked back in the wake to see what it was, half expecting to see a deadhead. Instead, in the foam of the wake, was a fin sticking up. We had hit an ocean sunfish!

The guide was upset and he circled back to see if the fish was injured. We checked the fish out and there were no apparent injuries, either from the boat or the prop. We got a good look at the fish before it angled down deeper as they are prone to do when boats get to close for comfort.
