I've already shared these photos in the other thread, but reposting so I don't derail that topic any further
As we approach what could possibly be a record return of Fraser River pink salmon in decades, it pains me to say that my beautiful father, 徐欽華 (pronounced Chin-Hwa Hsu) passed away early this morning after a very difficult month. He was 86. Fishing was his pure joy and throughout this year he couldn't stop talking about how much he was looking forward to this season, hoping to get one more crack at it. Even last week just prior to losing his consciousness, he urged me to have his gear ready as he knew the opening is approaching.
If you have met my father in recent years somewhere along the river or at a lake, you most likely would have noticed his big, genuine smile. He always wanted to talk to everyone, even with the limited English that he knew. His conversations were always filled with laughter and animated gestures. I was always afraid that he may be bothering other people, but time after time he proved to me that people are good in nature. He firmly believed that if you shower others with unconditional kindness, they will reciprocate. I thank you all for making him welcome over the years, being at the river banks with others were his happy moments.
He was also my biggest fan, which I failed to realize and took it for granted all these years. He religiously read all of your comments on here and other platforms by using the translate feature, and brought them up in conversations with me.
I plan to tell his story more in depth in a video when I can speak again. In the meantime, here are some photographs of our days fishing for pink salmon in the Tidal Fraser from the past twenty years. I hope you are all able to create some memories like this with your loved ones in the next several weeks.

I am very sorry to hear about your Dad's passing, Rod. I know very well what you are going through.
In time, the pain of the loss will fade, but all the wonderful memories will crystalize and you will be smiling every time you think of him. How could you not? He was a wonderful man who lived a fantastic life.
I will never forget the time (and tea) we shared a couple of years ago at that lake near Merritt. I could sense I was in the company of a great man. He was indeed, genuine and warm.
Rest in peace, Mr. Chin Hwa Hsu.
