Title: Weaver Creek Spawning Channel
Post by: vancook on October 06, 2022, 02:29:46 PM
Has anyone heard if they will be reopening the spawning channel to visitors this fall? It's still listed as temporarily closed. I've tried contacting them to no avail.
It would be nice to take the little guy to see the fish in there

Drove by there two weeks ago and the channels were dry, not a drop of water....Not sure if they divert water into the channel from the creek but I am guessing there is not much water flowing in the creek to divert.

the water for the channel comes from Weaver Lake via a pipeline. Usually it starts around Thanksgiving. It is kept dry when there are no fish or incubating eggs etc

Alternatively you could go to the Chilliwack Hatchery , was there a week ago and it has salmon in the pool below in the river .
You can see all the chinook there waiting to go into the creek
It was closed because of a bear in the area , not sure if its open now but the pool below offered plenty of salmon to see

Yeah I've been up there a few weeks ago with the kid, he really enjoyed it. Was hoping weaver would re-open because of how close you can get to the water. Could always wait a little longer for the eagles to arrive on the flats for him to see too.

Was at Weaver Creek spawning channel yesterday (FRI - 10/08/22). Locked up. The sediment pond and the spawning channels were filled with water - not a single fish in the channels. The creek was just a dribble. Saw one small beat up coho in the small pool under the bridge. Suicide Creek - no water, except for some stagnant pools below the bridge.
