Hello everybody, I was wondering why, if any reason a saltwater salmon tag is 6$ and the annual limit is 30 Adult Chinook while for freshwater it is $15 and only 10 Adult Chinook? I am yet to hear about any logic to explain this.

No idea but if I would speculate its because you can catch chinook year round in saltwater (without closures of course) while in freshwater its only a couple of months (on average 4 months?), then 4*3 = 12 (months).

It probably has to do with the process of allocating the % share of the fishery between the user groups.
Just guessing: There's a finite number of registered boats in the province so it's probably easier for DFO to approximate a maximum annual catch for the ocean rec fishery than the river fishery and then allocate accordingly. On land, the pool of number of potential tag-buyers is much larger because you don't need to be on a boat to use your tag. Also, I'd assume that tag sales fluctuate wildly based on good years and lean ones (or odd/even years due to the pinks), so it's harder to estimate how many tags will be bought each year. That leads to them pricing the freshwater tags higher and being more conservative with the annual catch limits.
Also, FN groups have priority over rec fishers so that'd be another factor that would encourage DFO to be more conservative in their annual limits for river fishing.

DFO sets the limits in both tidal and non-tidal water though the Province assesses the Freshwater salmon levy. DFO has traditionally put the harvest priority to the tidal commercial and sport fisheries though lately it has had to deal with a priority for FN harvest. Simple fact is by the time returning fish get into freshwater venues there is limited number available to harvest. Most rivers and streams have no harvest. FWIW tidal water chinook harvest are fine tuned to specific areas and for most of the season are set to zero daily harvest and a lower limit of 1 or 2 when numbers of returning fish are higher. The freshwater season is also much shorter than the tidal which at least on inside waters is virtually year round. It's not so simple as 10 vs 30 annually. A large % of fish caught in southern waters are also headed for US rivers, not Canadian.

I don't know how the pricing is set, but the revenues go toward two different orgs. The tidal salmon stamp goes to the PSF, while the non-tidal goes to the HCTF
