Title: Favourite Fishing Movie
Post by: Novabonker on November 07, 2021, 10:50:41 AM
I just got sucked in to watching A River Runs Through It - AGAIN. Being a fly guy even with the cheesy plot the fishing looks awesome. Brad Pitt's little underwater dive reminds me of a scour on the Skagit that darn near drowned me. Other than Rod's videos :) - any favourites?

For me, this is a no-brainer.

For artistic expression, I choose "The Old Man and the Sea", the version starring Spencer Tracy.
For fishing theme and conservation message, I go with "Raising the Ghost".
Any other fishing themed movies come a distant third to the above two.

Well my favorite fishing movies are a series of adventures with a Rod & a Kitty. That is, any of their Stamp River adventures with Murphy's, in Port Alberni.

I couldn't really think of too many good fishing movies, so after googling for some lists, the same 5-10 movies always seem to make the cut. Of the ones I've seen and excluding documentaries, 'A River Run Through It' undeniably stands on top, IMHO.

I enjoyed Salmon Fishing in the Yemen .

This is definitely a fine film. Would watch again.

Lisa had me watch "The Blue Miracle"
I was sceptical and tried to avoid, and ignored the first 15 minutes.
I did watch it to the end and thought it was pretty good:

I am not sure why a River Runs Through It comes up a lot.
while a great Mountain bike ride that is a black diamond and challenging at Whistler, I never really did find the movie to be that good.

People talk about the movie all the time but has anyone else read "A River Runs Through It"? Like most movie adaptations it wasn't completely successful but it was pretty good. I can't think of many good movies with a fishing theme but doing a little googling I found some that might be worth a try;  "Low and Clear"; "The Complete Angler."

I'd also recommend you go see Dune. Great Movie and the Sand Worms are just like fish! Just really big and they ride them with grappling hooks.

Moby Dick. While not a fish it was a great movie.

Read it. The movie captured the characters and the plot well, I thought, but where it lacked was re-creating Maclean's wonderful prose describing the world of the Blackfoot River. That was beautiful.

The first and my favourite fishing movie that I watched was A River Runs Through It in 1993 when I watched it on Pay Per View on TV at home. I have been to the filming locations of the movie in Bozeman and Missoula, Montana when I drove to Yellowstone National Park, and I only found out when I arrived home because I thought the locations looked familiar to a movie that I watched. I have to say the natural scenery in Montana is as beautiful in person as in the movie.
