Hey I’m a new fly fisherman headed up to tulameen for Easter weekend. I was wondering if the tulameen river holds any fish, and if so, what are some good flies or just general advice for this time of year and this area. Thank you.

Certainly trout and whitefish in there. Never fished it myself but people I knew who lived in the area said trout were very plentiful but small. The Smilikameen system is known to have a sizable population of whitefish. If the water is clear you can likely spot the schools. Use a small beaded nymph and an indicator.

Awesome thanks a lot for your advice! I’ll be sure to post in this thread if I end up getting anything! Cheers!

trout population has taken a big hit with the very warm low summer flows the last few years. Easter was always a good time to fish whitefish in the Similkameen river.

That’s too bad for the trout, Imo white fish are an underrated sport fish in bc,
Any advice for flies? From what I’m hearing nymphing is my best bet this time of year. Gonna bring my spinning rod as well for the girlfriend.
