Was one of the poorest years i've ever experience this year fishing port mcneill, back side of malcolm, port hard for chinook.

lots of nice big wild coho and pinks tho but very poor for chinook.

that sucks to hear. didn't fish inside waters this year but usually do. mostly cape scott area and winter harbour this year. have had many good days at bere point. even was lucky enough to see the orcas scratching their bellies on the giant sand bars.

The fishing was very good for us, but everyone defines "good" differently. We've done enough saltwater trips that it doesn't take too many fish to make it good. Once we got our one chinook each and a few pinks, coho, even caught a chum and a sockeye, we were out of there to see other stuff that we never get to experience... The whales and dolphins were totally the highlights of the trip.

so the salmon Kitty is holding in the first set of photos is a chum?

One day I post the photo of the salmon I caught just outside of Port McNeil.

Yeah that first salmon is a chum. We ended up hooking at least one of each species in the two days we fished.
