Here's an interesting little video. While it is about fly and spey rods it applies to all rods. While I have heard of this mod before it's never been in such a radical way. If you break the tip on an unrepairable rod of have an older one kicking around that doesn't get much use it might provide you a way to get a different rod from. Spoiler - it involves cutting away a few inches off the tip.

Ya, don't do this. It won't appreciably change the power but will significantly change the action (make it slower and less responsive).
Very little power comes from the tip (since it's so thin).
Consensus of expert rod builders is to never cut the tip.
