Fished from first light til 10:00 and only a small school of Socks at 6:00 to 6:30.
Find it hard to believe the quote from yesterday' post from what we saw, though it is probably true.

PSC estimated over 100,000 Sockeye came through yesterday, woo hoo!!
<<<<<<<<<<
Saw 3 socks landed (I have a 6 lb for the bbq), but we were wading. The boat guys did a little better ( a few drifted downstream to land springs) plus a number of socks maybe 10. Not that great for 50-75 rods. Above Jespersons.

Thankx for that report ;DI hope they leave some for the fisher people :P
-
Got my limit close to Island 22. ;D
-
Bottom snagger!! ;D
I tried the short floating tecnique. No success though.
-
good job aaron, give me a call tonight :)
-
Quick report as its on the Q
Got to the river late, slept in ;D was in time though to help several people land their fish on the rip rap bank so things were looking good for me 8) sadly 5 hours later things were looking pretty fishless for everyone at hand, looked like yet another trip with nothing to show but a bag of garbage and a head ache ;) then came sock #1 and then #2 right after :D still very slow for all around and the whole beach in general.still good enough to make me want to try again ;D
-
Got on the river and were fishin before 6:00
Were back in the boat and heading home by 7:30. Twas a good morning. Seen quite a few landed the short time we were at Grassy. Was nice to see our "friends" weren"t out there this morning. Hope you all had as good a day as we did. Everyone I've talked to said it is really hit & miss, just small schools going through
-
what spot you where fishing at lol :o :o
-
Saw no spring action in about 6 hours of fishing.Same spot the last 3 or 4 weekends has seen a handfull of springs every morn I was there including the three I had on briefly and the one lost at shore >:( >:( and two mornings saw sturgeon jumping but not this time. Also possably the strangest thing I have seen at the river this year appart from the hook in my eyebrow ;) was some weirdo with a live sockeye on a short tag line in the water behind him.It looked 3/4 dead :( so I asked him if he was planning on taking it home as a pet ::)
-
last year at Peg leg there was a large shallow back eddy where the odd person would TOW his sock into and then have it come off an swim away in 3 inches of water :o damn it was funny watching them chase after them like they were greased pigs ;D

Hi, new to the forum, was wondering if anyone could tell me where to catch the socks from shore on the Fraser? Been trying for Cap coho's but been skunked in the canyon and the mouth all season...on that note, anyone know if the Capilano is improving at all??
Thanks!
-
Anything fer a Hab fan! my dad was the biggest Hab fan ever.I think the Cap will need a good week of rain to pick up at all and as for the Fraser if youve flossed before try Laidlaw at the Jones lake exit off of the #1 Freeway a bit before Hope.
-
Fished Laidlaw from 7:30 until 17:30. First 8 hours no fish. Last 2 = 4 fish for me and a buddy. About 20 fish in that we could see during that time. Pretty poor. I'm aching, tired, and heading out agin in the morn.
g'nite....tight lines, and lots of fish!
-
Fished the upper river yesterday. Hooked 7 sockeye landed two, but it took five hours. I had fun just being out. The fish were a bonus.
-
Thanks for the help! Went back out to the mouth of the Cap this morning...damn seals spoiling my fun!!!! Skunked yet again but at least this time I saw some jumpers and watched the natives snag a few good sized ones. Another guy mentioned they saw a few schools come through earlier in the morning.
PS leadbelly , your Dad was obviously a very wise man ;)

left Vancouver around 6:30 am, got to bar near Gill around 830 , one spot left on the bar to fish, a number of fish had been caught already before i got there, within the first hour I hooked into a big spring which kept heading downriver, fought it for about 10 min before it snapped my leader,"would of been nice of the guys beside me with the boat to help out" o well it was a nice fight, a little while later i hooked into another spring not half as big, got it up to the shore for the beaching he decided to make for another run a quick jump and it was off the hook, i guess it was around 10 to 15, took a break for lunch came back to the same bar, saw a new sockeye fisherman get his limit, another guy showed up took a couple casts got one and left, then to top it off a 10yr old with a trout rod laced up with some spider wire pulls in a nice sized sockeye, I was skunked for a days fishing, on the brighter side I got to fight a couple nice fish and saw a total of about 12 or so sockeyes beached, my holidays start monday , im hoping to do some camping and finally land a few fish
-
No I was serious...I'm from the east...never heard that term before. Nor would I have ever believed you could catch Salmon with wool :-\
Why is snagging fish legal...? Thats messed up. I saw some natives doing that at the Cap river mouth but just assumed they were allowed to catch the fish any way they want. Since I have not yet caught a Capilano Coho I would love to pull one out of that place any way possible...but only if it agrees to try and eat whatever is at the end of my line :P

As a refesher from the regs:
http://wlapwww.gov.bc.ca/fw/fish/pdf/provincial_regulations.pdf
page 8.
snagging (foul hooking)… hooking a fish in
any other part of its body than the mouth.
Attempting to snag fish of any species is
prohibited. Any fish willfully or accidently
snagged must be released immediately.
Since the fish is hooked in the mouth, it's not snagging by current regulations. Please stop calling it that. The MWLAP or DFO don't call it that either.
Ethical or not - personal decisions rule on that. The rule of law says "OK".
