Title: Fraser July 29th
Post by: DragonSpeed on July 29, 2004, 01:13:26 PM
On the bar at 7:20....off at 11:15.  Two sox heading for the filleting board.  Saw a total (including mine) of about 6 sox and an 8lb Spring landed.  Not exactly a kill fest.  Glad I got mine :D

There were about 15 cars there.  Less crowded than  I expected, but I'm sure it will just keep getting busier as we hit the thick of the season.

fished the fraser between light up to 8:30am and decided it wasn't worth the pain to stay out on the river. Nobody (between about 15 anglers) even got a single hit. Saw 1 fish jump/roll while another waaaay out in the middle of the river jumpin' out of the river sayin "har har!". We decided to leave and a buncha others decided to follow suit. Hope the rest who decided to stay had some luck =D

Good to hear someone caught their fish today DS.

Ya great report...considering there are about 100 different locations spread over 100KM of river one can fish, it really doesnt help that much.   And considering you reported under 10 fish being hooked its not like that should draw a crowd!

Come on guys naming a city the bar is locate near  (IE Hope) doesnt give away the fact you were at laidllaw or the scale etc.  If you want to brag about your catch...pick up the phone and call your buddies, otherwise stop teasing us with tid-bits!

At least point us in the right direction would ya!

Thanks in advance.

wow,  I do believe DS posted earlier that he was heading to Laidlaw on thursday.  Unless he changed his mind and went to some secret spot  :D

I'll tell you right now,  the river is being affected by the 12 hour commercial hit.  The lower bars will be affected first,  and the upper bars closer to Hope later in the week.  Being closer to Hope, they could have been picking up straglers that have been taking their time up the river prior to the opening.  Within 2-3 days after an opening you'll see some more optimistic reports, starting closer to mission,  whereas the upper bars closer to Hope may still be feeling the tail end of the commercial hit.

I was at Herrling Island.  Skunked, not a nibblet except for the whitefish. Seems the boys boating further upstream to the next bar/island were doing better,  or,  they're just stubborn to leave since they boated the extra bit to get up there.  Lots more people up there tho.  For a bar that didn't seem to be walkable, there were definitely alot of people. (I dunno the name, don't ask)

thanks for the detailed reply, I got a 5 day weekend, the wife is at work and the sitter was alreay booked so I am doing some fishing regardless.  We were planning to hit the chilliwack bars, at least if they suck, we can bail out to the vedder.

I am hoping that the fish that were down river of the commercial opening have had a chance to get out to Island 22 by now.  If anything interesting happens, I'll let you guys know...

I think you should be able to have some success starting on Saturday. When I used to fish for sockeye 3 days after the commercial opening if the run is entering the river in good numbers you will get them in the Chilliwack area.
I also found the First Nations fishing did not effect it that much but now with the pilot sales on it may bring out more nets. Who knows

Enjoy the weekend all.

Dude....  The post was specifically a follow up to a General Posting.  That way people that follow, and participate get the info.  Those that come solely for the Reports have to read around the Forum a bit.  Nothing in life is easy. :D

Hey DS.  What were the GPS coordinates? ;D How far were you casting? ;D Were you waist deep or ankle deep? ;D  How much weight?  Etc. Etc. Etc. ;D ;D ;D

No need for too much info guy's.  There's lots of info all over this board and the rest of the internet that should alow you, with or without boat, to limit out on sockeye if you use the info that's there.

Thank's again DS!  Glad you had a good day :D
