Title: Development - FFSBC Summerland Hatchery water quality
Post by: Tylsie on January 11, 2017, 07:20:59 PM
I know FWR is primarily based in the LML, but I am sure quite a few members spend Spring and Summer in the Okanagan. There is great concern about the longterm viability of the hatchery in Summerland if a seniors housing development is allowed to be built right on top of the aquifer. The Summerland hatchery relies for on Shaughessy Springs ground water for 100% of its operation and this high density housing project has the potential to have a huge negative impact. The FFSBC has hired consultants to review the Banks Creek Development and the impact it would have, but I strongly encourage the people here to look into the issue for yourselves and contact the Mayor and Council of Summerland with your thoughts.

This Hatchery has been operating for almost 100 years, has faced countless obstacles over the years and stocks hundreds of lakes. It would truly be devastating if the hatchery had to close.
