Title: Skaha Lake, May 10th 2016
Post by: Rodney on May 12, 2016, 04:41:05 PM
We fished Skaha Lake for a few hours on May 10th on our way home from Kelowna. I launched the boat at Okanagan Falls and we fished the docks where there were quite a few smallmouth bass holding. Most of the fish were pretty small, with a few medium ones. The ones caught under the dock were all on a 1/16oz Gibbs Croc spoon which I have been using all this spring for rainbow trout and kokanee. Once the fishing died down around the docks as the Northerly wind picked up, we motored over to the west side where there were some drop-offs and fished in 15ft of water by dragging tubebaits near the bottom. Again, lots of fish, but most were on the small side with a couple of larger ones in the 15 or 16 inch mark. It was a beautiful sunny day to be at a gorgeous location, I look forward to fish it again.

I should mention that beside bass and perch, we also encountered a pretty high abundance of kokanee on the surface when we were casting and retrieving the little Croc spoon. Most of the kokanee were on the small side, the odd ones were big enough for retention but we threw them all back. Despite of their size, these fish actually fought surprisingly hard, compared to the ones we've caught in Kawkawa Lake.

--Interesting variety of fish and ways to fish them on Skaha.
--Not sure if all of the re-introduced Sockeye are keeping the Kokanee smaller size. Going to hunt for some larger kokanee in a few days. Haven't had much luck with the big guys yet this season.
