Hero 4 is the most current but well over $400. Best Buy has the hero 3 on sale for around $269 I think.

$269 with a memory card and accessory kit. Can't go wrong. You could easily use it for a while and sell it for $250 probably.

GoPro 3 White edition with good memory card and accessories is sufficient for most.  Unless you plan on shooting film IMO.

Always fun!  I have a couple.  Enjoy!

its a 64 gig card and yes that is alot. if you plan on using for more than 2-3 hours at a time you will need another battery.

A few things to keep in mind when picking a camera for filming your fishing trips.

GoPro cameras are versatile due to the fact that there are lots of mounting accessories which allow you to strap it onto your body, press the record button and capture whatever you are looking at. If all you want to show to people is your POV, and some underwater footage, then this is the camera for you, but keep in mind that because the camera is in a waterproof case, the audio captured is very poor.

If audio is important to you, then perhaps consider a point and shoot camera. The latest models all record excellent video footage as well as capturing good audio. You can also snap good photos at the same time. Mirrorless cameras are also worth considering if you want to spend a bit more. What this lacks is the ability of being underwater, unless you buy a case specifically designed for it, but how often do people actually bother with underwater videos?

64gb is very large and can store up to around 2.5 hours of true HD video footage, but keep in mind that if the card collapses, you are losing a lot of files at once. Personally I use 32gb cards. To fill up a 64gb card, you'll need about three batteries for your GoPro Hero3+ white edition.

Great comment about the audio Rod!  I also use my iPhone 6 to shoot a different point of view for videos, gives me the audio as well.  Most times I am putting them to music, so audio is not as important for me.  One other comment from me is getting the right mounts.  I only use the head mount, chest mount and gorilla grip tripod.  Hope this helps.

Yes, the GoPro audio is atrocious at best and non-existent when in a sealed housing.  The cheapest work around, assuming you have a smartphone is to use your smart phone as an external audio recorder.  Griffin iTalk Recorder for IOS is a great app for this.  Griffin iTalk Recorder uses the built-in mic on the iPhone, which is pretty robust but is limited since it is part of the phone, as well as an external mic.  I've also seen people use their hands free headphones mic as a DIY lav mic with pretty good results.  There are lots of tutorials out there on this approach.  Vimeo's video school series has a lot of useful information and I'm sure the same can be said for Youtube.

Good luck!
