Title: noob question
Post by: zacrum on July 22, 2015, 07:32:25 PM
so im getting ready for my first time dock fishing for sturgeon    and i stopped by this little shop called merle's   and got some stuff told him what i was doing and he sold me some pre rigged hooks   but they are rigged with what ppears to be nylon string    is this normal ?

No problem. The nylon leader is for abrasion resistance and also not as likely to slice the fish up. They are basically blind so leader shyness is not a factor.

If fishing from a dock or anywhere for that matter, make sure your rod is either tethered to the wharf or sit very close to it.
It really sucks watching your rod launch out into the Fraser.
I know this from experience. :'(

My friend and i usually have the drag set low and when the rod starts dancing tighten down the drag set hook and hope it's a big one. Had a close call once with drag being to tight and a big one took the bait. Lesson learnt.
