Title: Water beads
Post by: KarateKick on November 30, 2014, 09:35:01 PM
Has anyone tried using "water beads" as roe imitation?

I think these are absorbent soft plastic beads.  Some people use them in vases.  Others soak them in scented oil to make air fresheners.

Once they absorb water there very brittle, drop one on the ground and you will see what I mean, it's like dropping jello. I would imagine the rocks would destroy this. But everything is worth a try, even since there's some cool colors out there.

as long as you don't start off with a big bead I think it might be okay. When they're small they don't break very easily but they might become a bit bigger when fishing which makes them more fragile but I don't think that it will be an issue because they take a while to absorb. Try putting them in water until they're a little smaller than an egg and try using that, its not until they get to a marble size they start breaking easily. I'd say its worth trying out
