It was yet another frustrating but entertaining morning with the bites lasting for only 15 minutes around sunrise. The float dipped in five drifts in a row with only one hook-up which quickly popped off. Freshly cured roe was the ticket again, hardware continue to fail.

Rodney, are you staying out in Chilliwack these days? or making the daily drive from Richmond?
-
I was also out there today... spent a couple of hours on the river before work this morning. Worked hard for very little interest, though I did bring one chrome wild coho to hand before I had to pack up for the day. :)

I went out in the boat in the afternoon today in the mouth. One wild coho jack. Saw a few hatches taken. Also watched two guys hit a sunken log and flip there boat. Fortunately, some good folks around to help out and get the guys out of water quickly. Pretty scary. Glad no one got hurt. So many sunken logs and sweepers in there.

i was there (vedder creek) as well this AM, fished one of my favourite holes below Crossing bridge from 7am to 10am. I got 5 hits, 4 hookups and only 1 very clean spring jack landed. Lost a coho(didn't get to see whether it was wild or hatchery) near the shore, it was caught on a size 3 blade, all others were caught on freshly cured roes. There were school kids on field trip in the area we were fishing, a few of them were out-fishing us, with 5 largescale suckers landed in half an hour :P :D

This morning my evil wife woked me up in an ungodly hour to watch moon eclipse......
On a FOGGY morning!!!!
Since I'm up already. I decided to head out to vedder and try my luck for those ghostly cohos.
I arrived at the river around 7:30. Walked past a couple guys and continued up river. Finally found a stretch of river without a soul in sight. Well not a coho in the vicinity also. So further up river I walked. By then it's about 9. A few minutes into the run i got a take down. It's it's .... hmmmm no roll no jumps it doesn't feel like a ho... It's a spring!!!! Yuck I thought white spring even crabs wouldn't touch it. I tried to play it carelessly so I wouldn't have to touch it but it wouldn't pop off. Hey the fish doesn't smell what gives?!? It's a red spring!!! What a surprise!!! The day ended with just the red spring. But I'm not complaining.
-
Bwi Bwi that's a nice red!!
I hooked six cohos this morning, three lost, three wild to the beach, all on last year's roe. Started at daybreak and fished for four hours. It was hard work compared to the last two years. I walked away from the crowds and fished the snaggiest holes I could find. I lost lots of hooks, but it was worth it.

Another challenging day for coho for me as well. Managed to land a nice hatch doe. My buddy got a small hatch buck, and lost a few others. Quite a few springs and chums are starting to stack up! The coho...not so much. Looks like a large amount of rain is coming this w/e! So much, it will likely blow the river. But it should also bring fish in. We'll see. ;)

I caught a 34LB coho today on top of that it was a hatch :D

And no actually there have been cohos that been caught in the 30lb range

Sure buddy!, :D

Nice looking red spring!!
Just a question. Is there any biological reason why the Harrison, alluette. vedder and chehalis whites and marbles stink so bad.
I would eat the cedar plank before I would eat one of those. And why if you bonk a white up river from the rosedale bridge do they not smell and also taste so good? Please, no receipies.

It's only the skin that smells. Filet it and enjoy.

X2. Never cook Whities with the skin on. Really high heat, sesame seeds and Canola oil; poached in wine; coated in crushed potato chips and baked. Reds can stand own their own a bit better. Just give the whities the love they need.

I"ve only caught one spring on the Vedder. It was pretty colored up so I released it but I don't remember it smelling at all. Does it just smell fishy? White springs good for smoking?
-
Yeah I smoked the white spring I got on the Vedder
It didn't stink however it was caught at the beginning of
sept.

Can have a very fishy smell but also find it has a grassy smell.
