Title: Arctic Grayling on the Prophet

I'm going to be heading up to Prophet River area, south of Fort Nelson.  I understand there are plentiful Arctic Graying in that area, but have never had the opportunity to target that species.  I'll probably try casting some small spoons--Kamloopers, Crocs, and similar--and I might also try with the fly rod, although my fly casting experience is limited.

I wonder if anyone here has experience on that river or general advice for Arctic Grayling.

Only advice I can really give is nymphs, but not sure what works well,  im so jealous as I want to get a grayling bad!

 I fished for Grayling more than 20 years ago in Alberta. They are very willing fly chasers and they are schooling type of fish as well. They are not very big fish with soft mouth so smaller spinner and spoons are needed.

When I was up in Alaska a few years back, I found they would attack most smaller streamers and epoxy minnow patterns...but that was in the late spring.... I'm sure muddlers and such would still work this time of year :)

I caught a lot of Arctic Grayling growing up in Northern Alberta. the best flies back then were Royal Coachman, Black Gnat and Mosquito. I'm sure Tom Thumbs would be deadly.

Thanks for the advice, guys. We managed to connect with some Arctic Grayling. We had only a little success with spoons, but found that spinners retrieved slowly worked well.

Here's a pic of my dad with his first ever grayling (which made for a delicious dinner).

There were also plentiful Bull Trout. I caught and released one that I estimate was 6 lbs.  A good fight on my little spinning outfit.

This is an awesome fishery, but difficult to access. We traveled by Argo.

I saw three moose, but none were big enough, and were therefore released  ;)
