Was looking for spots for possible salmon fishing but switched to sturgeon after not seeing any action.i must say I'm brand new to sturgeon fishing but was very lucky to have an experienced friend with the proper gear.we fished during the day and night because the first sturgeon I hooked into got me addicted.
Luckily for me he did all the casting and baiting and set up while I was stuck with a hard job of fighting. Used a 13ft rod custom built by my friend at www.seaowl.ca with a Penn big game spinning reel casting 16oz weights 3/4 length out into river.then the hard part waiting for the bite.
First day fishing hooked into 3 during the day the biggest being close to 5 ft. Took a dinner break and was back to for night time. All I can say as for the night fishing. ...had a blast! Hooked into my biggest fish to date and another slightly smaller one night after.also had a hook up with a monster that broke 300lb main line.
Here some pics

Ive been trying for sturgeon alot lately.. Still havent had any success. Have all the gear but no bites yet (that i know of). Tried dump bar a few times and brownsville. I can only cast 40-50ft with my rod being only 8ft. Tried worms, stocked trout, and salted salmon roe. I might look for a hole but im not sure how to tell other than by casting that theres a hole there! Brownsville bar has a nice deep drop off but couldnt temp any sturg with my offers :). Maybe next time. If I keep putting in 8 hour trips im bound to catch one sooner or later, right?
Beauty fish btw! Looks like port royal :)
Been fishing certain tides or no?

Get your hands on some fresh Sockeye roe and tie it up in nylon stockings the size of a golf ball.
Sturgeon fishing is ALL about the bait.
The whole river has Sturgeon so don't read too much in where you are fishing.
With good bait, they will find you.

Here is a pic of the rods we were using. Had no problem handling small 4 and 5 ft guys all day.

Not supposed to use live bait - even if it is a little dog. :o Looks pretty productive and tons of fun.

He is there as a guard dog. Don't let his looks fool ya he is a killer.

Most of them ankle biters are more vicious than a Tiger.lol
Had one walk by us with our dog and it wanted all of our dog in one bite.
It was about 4 lbs and our dog is about 70lbs .
The owner had to hold the leashed beast back as he wanted to go. :D
-
Great to see some success! Nice work.
Next time, keep in mind;
Guidelines for Angling White Sturgeon in BC
Keep sturgeon in the water. Never lift a large sturgeon out of the water. Fish suffocate out of water. Large sturgeon are at risk of internal
injuries due to their own weight.
Have fun out there.

Murray isn't so bad lol he will most likely lick you to death.
Damien thanks for information. I must of misread somewhere thought it was OK to lift sturgeon under 5ft. Was too excited with the first few ones but all the rest were kept in water.
-
Leave the sturgeon in the water, no need to lift it out for the trophy shot.

By definition large sturgeon are 1.5 meters and greater in length

By definition large sturgeon are 1.5 meters and greater in length
Exact quote is:
"A fish suffocates when it’s out of water, and is at risk of internal injuries due to its own weight, especially if it is large (greater than 1.5 m in length)."
I don't believe you can harm these little ones with a quick photo.

Check out point 2 for the definition. Agree the little ones should be ok.
