I was at the Cap today. I climbed down the steep sides in three spots about mid canyon. Saw lots of smolts in all spots but only a few bigger fish in the Cable pool. One guy caught something at the Cable Pool every half hour, looked like 2 pound salmon.

He must be doing something right.

Somebody moved this to fishing reports...no problem, I'll post a few pics maybe and add more info.
I had a gameplan before I went to the Cap today. I wanted to fish some new spots and do some exploring.
First spot I went to was directly below the first parking lot. This was a steep climb down the canyon.

I started with bait under a float. Nothing. I switched to my other rod and cast a silver Colarado blade. Nothing. After an hour, I packed my things up. Three people were fishing nearby and I didn't hear them get excited, so I assume they had similar luck.
The climb back up was not too bad but there was one sketchy area. I stayed as far away from the edge as possible.
I moved my car down to the hatchery. There are four guys fishing the Cable Pool. From there, I went on a hike south. At the Dogleg pool, one lone fly fisherman on the rocks about 15 feet above the water.

On the Chinook trail, past the Pipeline Bridge, I went down the canyon again. I came across two guys casting lures. I watched them for about 15 minutes and didn't see them get any bites. I didn't bother trying myself.

I walked around the area looking for a specific spot I had in mind, and can't find it. I climbed back up, tired.
I crossed the Pipeline Bridge and hiked to a spot I had caught fish in last year. Another climb straight down the canyon. I see a dozen smolts in the water in front of me! A good sign that there are fish around.
I cast out a Blue Fox vibrax spinner. On the third cast, a little smolt gets hooked. I let him go quick. Next cast, another smolt. No sign of anything bigger. I switch to my levelwind and try bait. Nothing. I give up after 45 minutes and climb back up. By now, I'm exhausted from hiking and climbing.
I walk to the Cable Pool. I figure, what the hell, I'll give it a try. I climb down some rocks and get close to the water. Very slippery rocks. There are a couple guys fishing from the rocks 20 feet above the water. I see lots of smolts.
One of the guys moves down to some lower rocks. He's got a light rod with what looks like pencil lead and something red for bait (yarn or roe). I start casting a Colarado blade. I see some smolts pecking at it. A few casts later, I get a definite bite from something bigger.
About 15 minutes later, the guy who moved down hooks into something. His rod is bent over and his line is moving side to side. Unfortunately, he loses it after a few minutes.
I try some different lures: pink crocs, silver spinners, vibrax spinners. No more bites. Switch to bait, only get nibbles from smolts.
I see what looks like a jack coho or small steelhead in the water in front of me. This was the first sighting of a non-smolt fish for me.
The guy who hooked something earlier moved back up the rocks near the platform. He hooked another fish and it popped out of the water. Looks like a 2 pound coho. He walks down the stairs and I can't see what he does with it. I keep casting and get nothing.
The other guy hooks one more about a half hour later. He disappears down the steps again. This guy is doing something right.
I packed up and went home. I won't be going back until there is a big rain and more fish move in.
