Title: Dominec Lake, June 9th - 13th 2014
Post by: Novabonker on June 14, 2014, 03:17:00 PM
I got up later on Sunday afternoon. Wearing shorts and a tee, I wasn't long putting on some warm clothes. 4999 feet above sea level, I also noticed I became winded pretty easily. I didn't fish that night, but just decompressed.
The next morning I inflated my Beautiful Barbi, a cosy little 11.5 foot boat, stuck on the reliable old Johnson 7.5 and found out the old gas can lead wasn't working unless I pumped the bulb. Off to Kamloops and buy a new one from Canadian Tire. Went back, started to thread the new fitting and the plastic decided it didn't like the brass and broke 2 turns in. Back to Kamloops, lather, rinse repeat. Worked fine this time. Finally got out on the lake. Fast and furious fishing, but the biggest was 12 inches. TONS of little guys, but not any of size. Anyone who's ever fished there knows there's lots of fish, but not very big ones.
The next day I fished for a couple hours in the morning, same results. The only advantage to these fish is the firm and flavourful meat. I kept a few for dinner. I split a little wood in the afternoon for my host, a short nap,ate dinner and hit it again that evening. Same results- lots of 9 - 12 inchers. I guess being a spring fed lake they rarely grow to any great size.
The next day I was taken to a "locals only" sort of lake. I had to promise not to name the lake for fear of the death penalty. We had to 4 wheel drive in and cart my friends 10 foot Harbercraft in about a city block of md pit.. Funny, it didn't look that heavy, but a really wide beamed stable craft. Nice marle (sp.) shoals and some nicer fish size wise.Took a couple and headed back to the cosy cabin to watch an old James Bond movie and relax. Generators in cabins are a wonderful thing. :D The next morning it was pelting down So I snuggled up to the fire and read and napped until it cleared and the wind dropped that evening. The bite was off. Nothing.Nada. Zip. Zilch. Oh, well- always tomorrow! Pouring with rain again until mid afternoon. It eased up a bit and I thought I was going to get one last evening in.
WRONG
Now before I get too deep into this, when I was 6 or 7, I got struck by lightening. I have a mortal fear of thunder and lightening storms. I may have lived through it once, so I wont tempt fate, OK - in the cabin, and slid quickly under the wood framed futon. The dog and I stayed there shivering with the dog.
I got up this morning, deflated Barbi, ran my old Johnson until the carb emptied and packed up. On the road at 7:30, a quick stop in Merrit at the Chevron and picked up a couple of breakfast burgers from the attached White Spot. Home in North Van by noon.Time for a nap.....

Good write up. Short and too the point. I know the area well. Their are a few good fishing lakes in the area with bigger fish. Many are well known to fishermen. Their can also be a bunch of ATV'ers in the area.
