Do pink salmon return yearly to Campbell river on the island?
I might be going there thanks
-
They do return every year, but the return in odd-numbered years is insignificant. The big runs are every two years, on even-numbered years.
It's 2014, so you are good to go and catch lots of pinks in the Campbell River. It's a fantastic fishery.

Actually every year gets a good return in Campbell River. One year is better than the other but not significantly

Thanks for the info!, what months are good for them? I honestly don't remember and tried to Google but couldn't get much out of it thanks

Generally from the Comox River and north even numbered years have the big run but many rivers there also have good to excellent runs in odd numbered years. The Campbell run of pinks is enhanced as are the runs at Nile Creek and some other runs on the east coast of the Island.
-
Hi,
what is the proximate expected peak time for pinks there?
Thanks.
-
Generally, during even numbered years, the Pinks start to arrive in late July in the Campbell River area. During odd number years there are Lower numbers, but bigger fish, and they arrive later. Usually there are fishable numbers by the middle of August. The Pinks arrive in the Port Hardy area about 2 to 3 weeks earlier than Campbell River.

Are you looking to fly fish for them or gear fish. The last couple of yrs. has seen high numbers return. Over the last 4-5yrs. the runs have increased but so have the fisherman.Still room for you. First two weeks in Aug. are the best. If you come earlier you may want to try the Eve river.
-
Hey if you have time head up north of Sayward and fish the Eve or the Adam river. For pinks go right to the mouth of the river on an incoming tide and a pink on a 4 wt is a good fight.
