Title: Is FlyBC down?
Post by: milo on March 21, 2014, 06:01:33 PM
I keep getting the message: IPS Driver Error.
Been like this for at least two full days now, which is out of character for the site.
Anybody still able to log in?

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a database error of some sort.

Spent this week battling SQL Server 2012 High Availability Groups and SharePoint.
Hopefully they can just restore from a nightly backup and be good to go...

Hey maybe FlyBC should ask Fishing with Rod, what they use as a server then we would not have so many issues with the site.
Fishing with Rod never is down ..from what I remember over the many years.

Hey Dave, actually Shaggy and Hoof have discussed with me about other options for web hosting. They asked for my assistance awhile ago but I have way too much on my plate right now so cannot help, but hopefully in the future I can if the serve issue is not resolved yet.

For hosting, choosing a reliable big host is important, but you also need to bring out the big bucks to expect consistent up time. For this website, the hosting cost per month is usually up to a couple hundred dollars a month to accommodate the traffic. :)

Obviously I have not been banned from the site and the fact is that I have not been able to access the site has been down for a while now.

Also I was informed that a person has to log in 50 posts before he can access the local fishing reports. So I logged in more than 50 posts and the person was right-I was able to view the local fishing reports for about 4 days and then the reports disappeared and now once again I can`t view the information.

Posts are often removed from the board for various reasons (repetition, outdated, Q&A about the forum, etc). When posts are removed, the post count will go down.

The 50 post requirement for access to certain part of the discussion forum is designed to encourage and reward members who intend to actively participate in this online community, not for people who aim to post 50 times just so they can gain access and become inactive at the same time.

I suggest that you revisit this topic:

Post racking is not tolerated! Those who choose to post irrelevant replies or content that is already in the thread will have these posts removed. If continued, the account will be suspended. The goal of the 50 post requirement is to provide quality content for participants and reward those who choose to contribute to this online community. We do not wish to have individuals who only intend to make 50 posts that mostly lack substance only to read fishing reports without further contribution.

If the strike lasts long enough I might see you hit 10,000 posts in this thread  :P

Hi Rod, what makes me a senior member and Firstlight an oldtimer? Does it go by join date, post count or alien invasion?

I can`t even go into sports chat and poke fun at Chris G and Mojo at how crummy the Leafs are.

Cheers

Post counts, however there is no difference between senior member and oldtimer actually. You should be able to access all the boards including sport chat.

Correct. I can no longer log on from Thailand, but that is no inconvenience because their server never let me stay logged on for more than a few seconds. I could read but not respond... even when it said I was logged in.

Maybe they have changed to a new server ad we are all going to start all over.
