Title: Chilliwack River, January 17th 2014: 3 strikes and you are out!!!
Post by: CohoMan on January 17, 2014, 04:53:16 PM
Hi folks

The river is in perfect shape today.

The fish God gave me 3 chances to cash in but I wasted them all.

First drift, float went down and I set the hook- nothing!!! :(

Second drift, float went down and I set the hook- nothing!!!  :P

Third drift, float went down and I DID NOT set the hook thinking it was nothing.

Big chromer jumped and took off across the river and came off!!!!! :'( :'( :'( :'(

Why, why, why???

I saw another one hooked across the river but got off too.

Heard of a few here and there.

can be a lot of things...bowed line, too big of bait presentation, bad hook positioning on bait/presentation, too large a float/hook, or just plain bad luck...frustrating regardless of reason, just one of those days i suppose.

Cohoman, thanks for an entertaining report.  Were you using roe?

I was definitely using roe. Tried roe bags but that run seems to work better on roe by itself.

I've played that game way too many times. Everything gets a hookset now.  8)

I've had that happen on occasion, actually multiple occasions every season.
If I miss a fish multiple times, at some point I decide to let them chew on it (normally my magic number is 3 misses).
Pretty much count to 3 and a solid, hard hookset, hasn't failed yet.

This fish (from this year) came back 7 times before I finally got him, he was hitting super light though, barley moving the float:

Lol no, just one firm one every time the float does anything suspicious.
