Really too bad when things like this happen.
Recently a train derailed & coal entered a small creek in Burnaby I think it was. ( Don 't know why a coal train would be on Burnaby tracks ? )

Apparently 4 boats have sunk in the Squamish area this past fall & winter, how be it smaller boats. Possibly in heavy rains the bilge pump does not come or whatever!

This old tug had a lot of fuel spilt & definitely going to affect the herring & other marine species.
Herring was making such a good comeback too.

Seems like it was just floating as a derelict boat. I wonder how many of those are just floating around long abandoned.

Seen a follow up tv news story & a co owner said they spent $150,000 on the tug recently.
Also only a month ago he claims the tug did a tow job.
He also thinks the tug should of not sunk & assumes a person went aboard & did something on purpose for it to take on water.

Ideas come to mind but who knows what happened?
Some contractor owed $...
Or water leaked in thru the old hull...
Even the marine toilets that flush to the sea has a valve mis function.

But your point is so true as I've seen boats tied to old docks that look abandon.

update: the coast guard was in the process of towing it away when it sunk just off of lighthouse park in west van.

Oops.

Before long there'll be condos on both sides of the channel, after that people will start to complain about the smell @ low tide and that will be the beginning of the end.

What a fricken joke. We have not been allowed to fish for rock cod or ling cod just East of that area(Point Atkinson) for over  ten bloody years. Then they drop a tug boat down there. What a bunch of idiots!!! Why didn’t they pump out the fuel before transporting it? They should be heavily fined and be responsible for costs of clean up! By the sounds of it, it was dropped in 400 feet of water Enjoy your diesel marinated prawns.

More investigating finds this clown has done this before. "In May, another boat owned by the Steen Larsen sank in the channel, along with a truck parked on it."

Check out this very very interesting article written March 14 2013. Talk about foreshadowing.  Love the Quote  "My boats are environmentally safe and will not sink, you can be sure of that."
