Saw a post a from a guy named Rick on FWR's Facebook page talking about fishing off the shores of West Vancouver for Winter Chinook. I highly assume he was in a boat with downrigger gear, but I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck pitching spoons from shore for these beauties, or do they travel too deep and far off shore to hit? Other than getting frequently skunked there, I like fishing Ambleside. I'm going to try tossing a Gibbs Gypsy nice and far this weekend and see if I can land something and change my luck there.

I heard a guy hooked three off one of the breakwaters at ambleside last weekend fishing from the shore, not sure if it was rick or not

Anybody down to do some winter beach fishing? Might be fun to get out and toss some metal before steelhead gets into full swing.

I know people do it off the docks up towards Port McNeill... Apparently you can do quite well. Not sure what spoons they use.
Winter chinook are pretty much into following around bait fish to my understanding, so if the bait is in close I wouldn't see why a few fish wouldn't be in close as well. Watch for birds on the water, always seems to be a good indication of a bait ball when I'm fishing coho or cutties off the beach.

Aaron and Fishawn - There is a good chance (unless horrible weather) I will be there for at least an hour or two tomorrow morning by 9 near where the rocks meet the beach. Look for a big guy in a black jacket + orange and white ball cap and come say hello. Hoping my 1/2 ounce Crocs and Gypsy's will be big enough for the monster spring I intend on pulling out (now that's optimism!).

Sounds awesome! I'll be there too. I don't know where the rocks meet the beach though, judging by google maps I presume you mean close to the cap mouth where theres a parking lot and the ambleside beach kinda ends?
Hey guys, sorry, but I can't make it tomorrow. Have fun, and let me know how it goes for ya!

Bundle up. It's going to be cold and wet
