Had the morning completely free so decided on one last trip for some salmon action. Got to my spot just before day break and after about 20 mins my hands and feet were frozen, gotta love late season salmon, felt more like steelhead season. In total 7 coho landed, 2 of which were silver, the rest were of the "copper" variety, all on fresh coho roe. Also a couple of chum on a Colorado. I didn't have high expectations for this trip so was quite pleased to tie into the amount of fish I did. I had one wild fish which put up one of the best fights I've had all season, a total of 9 jumps and 3 good runs! Fish seemed hell bent on shaking that hook but in the end I won. Capped off a very good season for me, very fortunate to spend the amount of time I did on the river this year. This last doe decided to join me for dinner tonight.

Yeah nice one dude.
Hey did you catch any colored ones or, on their way to being colored, with really ugly pink/red loonie sized sores on them? They weren't seal bite marks, or net marks..almost like a rash or eczema?

So I'm not the only one? Encountered several fish with what you are describing. Also talked to a guy on an upper pool 2 weeks ago about it and just then he landed a pretty big hatchery fish with some sores on it.

Lamprey bite?

Lamprey bite?
I hope so.
It really doesn't look like a bite at all (unless lamprey bites are significantly different). It was more like a rash, not sure if it was raised like a blister, but very noticeable and bright pink splotches. Like a skin condition.
My buddy next to me caught a less colored one with less pink marks, but they were there. Old timer we spoke to about them said it sounded like "fish cancer"...but I'm not sure about that.
BTW, only on coho. None on any of the chum and I caught one that was very very bright.

I got a few coho with pale pink pimples all on one side out of a small river

Nope none of my fish had those boils on them, one had a hook, wool and leader in its tail, another had a bite mark. However that being said I have caught a few fish with those on them and oddly enough they all came out of the vedder this year if I remember correctly. It's not new however, I've caught fish with these since I can remember, it's usually the late run fish and most of the time the fish are starting to turn. Maybe a disease or infection they get before spawning?

i caught a spring this year with a couple gross holes in it, not sure if just teeth marks or somthing, but it looked like some kinda flesh eating disease.
