I was showing a friend the cap river hatchery yesterday and then ended up talking to an older gentlemen at the cable pool and he told me of another spot to fish on the capilano.
he said you take a left at the intersection that takes you to edgemont village (Ridgewood road?), and then go through to the back of some town houses and down some steep stairs (metal stairs?).
so i went looking this morning but couldn't find anything... went through a couple townhouses, but maybe i was in the wrong area.
from looking on trail maps, i think the area is called Ranger Pool...
can anyone point me in the right direction?
or pm me if you'd rather not say publicly.
cheers,
-
I know where it is and you can't access it. Private, gated property.
-
No longer accessible
-
As a long time Fisher of the Capilano, that spot is not accessible(private/fenced off property)! At least from Cap Road, you can access the spot from West Van side during low or dead flow conditions and even then you would be risking your life as proof of a cross that is on shore on the West Van side.
That old man that you talked to was probably talking crap!
-
Wouldn't it be sweet to own that property and have your own pool to fish in? Now if I could only pick the 7 winning numbers...
-
There is a run above Ranger that looks so good but is not accessible even to the residents that look down on it from the top of the cliff.
-
its accessible, but I don't recommend it this time of year.....only in the summer months when its dry out. Almost killed myself last fall scaling the cliff down
-
Thanks everyone! won't waste my time trying to search it out only to get the cops called on me hahahah.

i think he was actually drunk :) hahahah
-
If he was old, and possibly drunk, he was most likely reminiscing about 20 years ago, and just didn't let you in on that part of it. lol
-
if your new to the cap than fish the lower section much easier to access
marine drive to cap susp bridge
take a look at google maps and be prepared to explore the trails

ive fished the most accessible parts of the cap before, and frequently. once in awhile though i like to go into the canyon, and find a place a little more secluded and away from the crowds. I was hoping this would be a nice new addition.

Saw on Global tonight that North Shore Rescue had to rescue a guy from the Capilano today because he decided to go for a swim and couldn't get out of the water.
-
I always look at the water level when water levels bad if its over 4 I don't go

Probably shooting a video for his youtube channel ::)

If these guys wanted to risk their life, go ahead! But they also put other rescuers with a happy family in risk. SHAME. >:( >:( >:(
-
The thing with that river too is it is so noisy that even if you shouted for help no one would hear!
-
What about mental health issues or a suicide attempt? Regardless, I am glad the professional rescuers were on hand.
-
I saw the link and was VERY surprised (pleasantly maybe) to read that it wasn't an angler!
Cheers to all of us for not doing something dumb enough to need search and rescue. Hooray!
