Title: Tidal Fraser River, September 9th 2013
Post by: bluenoser on September 09, 2013, 09:29:39 AM
After a stellar morning yesterday I had one brief hook up this morning and only saw 1 fished hooked and landed and there were lots of rods out.....from Hero to Zero in 24 hours.

I was out this morning and fished from 6:30 to 10am. Caught a nice chrome doe and lost another  >:( In all was a nice time out on the tidal. One thing though, I noticed the seiners were out and therefore I guess the river is empty because of the commercial still open. Can someone verify if they are actually open?

I was out at No. 3 Rd. at 6:30am for 1 1/2 hours.  Not a even a bite, and did not see any fish caught.  Saw maybe a half dozen risers during that time.  Went over to the North Arm and casted for 1/2 hour.  Nothing. This season is nothing like the last two Pink runs, both of which I believe were smaller in total numbers than this year's.  I'm wondering whether the higher the run estimate, the worse off it is for the recreational fishermen, due to the fisheries people allowing for more frequent commercial openings.  No idea whether this is what's happening, just trying to make sense of what's going on.

I got to the river at 6:30 and was limited out by 7am, tons of fish rolling through the fog this morning further out. but it was cpmpletely dead by 7:30. Someone beside me fishing for sturgeon, had 2 on in 10 minutes. then his rod broke on a 6 footer but he managed to land it.

Fished Langley area around noon. As dead as can be. Saw a few fish rolled but they don't bite and no other people got any. The commercials must have cleaned up the fish.

Blah Blah Blah....... Because you went out and nobody caught a poor little pink salmon that means that the seiners caught them all eh ? Give your head a shake pal, the more you post, the more it becomes clear that you have very little knowledge in the fishery{s}. There's literally hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of fish in the river right now.

It's called fishing, not catching for crying out loud..........btw, I got two when I went out there this morning, gonna try and get two more later on when I go back too !!

I can attest to the amount of fish in the system to back up Bently.  I sat on schools of fish Sunday for 3 hrs just west of Derby and was dumbfounded by the variety of stuff I threw at them to no avail. I am certainly not a pro fisherman but far from a novice. That being said, Bently and others have found a niche for something that is working for these fish that are seemingly the "easiest" to catch but frustrate the impatient.
I have not spend much time out this season yet but remember vividly two years ago being in the same predicament where as being out one time with nothing but fish jumping basically all around with nothing to show to other times when they would not stay off the hook.
I know I will be changing up from the traditional lures in hopes of figuring out what others who have been successful have already accomplished.
Fish don't read nor go to tackle stores in order to bite what they are supposed to. Change it up ....... purple might be the new pink.

I fished 20+ years for salmon & steelhead and I caught more steelhead than most people who fish with me. So give you silly head a big shake on your dumb respond. If you have nothing to report on the fishery, shut up. Comment like this on my reporting on what I found out at noon during my lunch break is totally uncalled for. I said I saw some fish rolled but they didn't bite. Saying the seiners clean up the fish is only figuratively speaking in light of earlier posts of a slow day and a bit of sarcasm. Don't you understand English? So you are the king of pinks and have the final say on this fishery? People like you think you know it all. I have caught a dozen pinks (not including Furry Creek) so far so how many have you got, champ? People like you turn off posters unnecessarily and we have no use of these kind of comments.

Chillax, people. It's only the Internet.

There are good days and bad days catching, but it is always a good day when you are fishing.
If you don't feel that way, you are in the wrong sport.
For the record, fishing migrating salmon in fresh water is not really a big deal. When they travel thick, everybody can catch fish.

But land a steelhead from an icy river in January, or a big trout out of a moody trophy lake, and you earn my respect.

One could argue that with seiners operating that the fish are going in pulses rather than large continuous schools with the number being about 24 million pinks.  So many factors in play, i was out yesterday in richmond and before it was very light out the fish were biting close to shore sun came out bite stopped for the most part.  what caused it i don't know but we all like to think we understand the fishery from our own perspectives, keeps us somewhat sane I think.

water was boiling with fish around 9am in the Port Kells area. I was watching them from work and could see several rises at any given second. went back to watch at 11am (lunch) and only saw the odd rise minutes apart, back to look around 3pm and didn't see anything in the 10minutes I stood there watching.

I always have found pink hit better first thing in the morning on the Fraser, once the sun comes out the fish push away from the banks and go deeper and don't rise very often. Of course once the massive schools show up this isn't true anymore because there is just so many the water is choked with them  ;D

iliketofish - for what its worth I have caught more this year in an hour than you have total  :P (I have kept 1 that I ate that evening while camping)
