Title: Squamish Pinks
Post by: Tuckster on September 04, 2013, 11:58:46 AM
Anyone been to the Squamish recently? I havent been for about a week and a half, was wondering if much has changed.

Are there still edible pinks moving into the system or is it just all colored up now?

Looks like the Fraser is still a week or so away, i figure i could guarentee catching fish at the squam, but they may not be worth catching.....no need to put unnecessary stress on the spawners.

not worth the trip. I was there Saturday. of course, there will always be that one guy who picks chrome out of the pack of zombies, but I am just waiting for the Fraser to start. my opinion.

Went Monday, still quite fresh, released quite a few zombies of course. Threw them on the BBQ when I got home, with lots of smoke and no one complained. I dont know if I would go back before the 15th though.

He's only taking a photo with it.  I doubt he's killing or eating it.  He did say he caught that zombie with his bare hands.

Was up on Monday with a bud who just started flyfishing...visability was a couple inches at best below Mamquam and not much better above it so unless its cleared up its not worth the trip.

I was there at 7am end of Spit road and no one else was around. Gong show showed up around 11am at which time I was getting ready to leave. Was there more for the sport while waiting for Fraser to pickup but did manage to take home a few decent fish.  Depending on your persective, to me it was still a good time but I agree, I probably wouldnt go back.

Holy smoke boys. Time to bone up up your fish identification! That fish is a spawned out male pink salmon. It in no way remotely resembles a chum salmon.

Not really. With what I have seen on the Squamish this summer, I take nothing for granted. I have seen many fish that have looked only slightly better than that go home. It is truely amazing the level of stupidity that showed up once the Fraser was closed. Hopefully that will end now that the quality of most of the fish has fallen off to somewhere between "ugly and zombie". There has also been a significant number of char and some small chinook killed this year because people either can't id them or they don't care. The local CO has written books of tickets for these offences.

LOL, sometimes the emoticons aren't enough I guess. But seriously, it's only a little bit of tail rot on that chum, I'm sure it would smoke right out... :-X

Whether he intends to keep it our not, based on my conversations with the DFO officer in Squamish I suspect what he's doing would qualify for a ticket for molesting the Pink.

I am pretty sure that fish was already dead when he "caught" it with his bare hands.  It is a corpse, not a zombie.

I laughed out loud. Thanks!

Yup. Chocolate milk. Everyone and his dog was snagging fish left and right. I gave up after not being able to fairly hook 9/10 fish, despite using a floating line and upturned hooks. Wish they sold circle hook flies in stores... Hmmm, maybe I should learn to tie...

I'm sure other then the person who was holding it, everybody here knows it a pink...

Pittsburgh fans... 'nuff said.
