Camping is not camping without a campfire. The campfire is the main reason I go camping. Sitting back enjoying a cold beveridge, roasting a smokie is the bomb!

Couldn't you still bring your portable cookers though? It's just no open flame camp fires.

This prohibition applies to open fires of any size, fires with a burn registration number, industrial burning, fireworks, tiki torches, sky lanterns and burning barrels. The prohibition does not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or to a portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC rating that uses briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel, as long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimeters.

Those of you that use the portable "campfires," what brands do you use?  I see Canadian Tire sells the Ban Buster and Homehardware sells the Outland.  I bought the Outland one from HH yesterday and it seems o.k., I just wish it had a lid of some sort to make it easier to transport.

Although this is terrible news for most, it looks like the lake I am going to next weekend is just outside of the fire ban zone. Let's hope it stays that way!

Don't know where you're headed croy_00, and you may be aware of this already but there is also a fire ban in the Kamloops and Cariboo fire centres.

I remember reading somewhere that this is because resources are spread thin across the whole province but if an area is monitored full time by a fire crew then it's ok to have fires. Don't quote me on this, and not sure where those areas are but if someone is desperate they should look that up

You are sooooo out to lunch!

Where do you get your material before you spread it to the masses.

Everyone, please ignore this post and rely on what is factual.

My god!

Remember if you disregard the campfire ban, you can be held liable for any damages that your campfire causes.

and the fine can be upwards of 1 million dollars !!!

If your desperate to have a fire then you should just stay at home to resist temptation.

would be nice to see more smoker's respect the planet and "butt out" in a pop can or cigarette snuffer or into something better than just flicking them outside  >:(

HOOK - I used to smoke and never just tossed my butts on the ground, even as a teenager !

Yup totally agree with you Hook. The Barrier fire a few years ago was all started with a single cigarette that was thrown onto the ground.

I just got back from 10 days of cutthroat fishing on the Island {northern part} and the ban came into effect while we were there. It was no big deal as we just got out our {never used before} YUKON LEGEND propane portable campfire. It was great, you can cook on it and it comes with a lid that can also be used as a stand for the actual unit. Of course it's not the same but when it's pitch dark out and you want the same kinda effect as a real fire then it does the job good enough. Put it this way, it's better than nothing and I thought I was ol" school and would never consider it but I loved the thing. You can get them at the Cloverdale Flea Market for around $80 to $100, I got mine for $75 because it had a few scratches on it already but had never been used.

BTW the cutty fishing was fantastic` ;)

actually we have done a lot of camping but she was definitely not as eager once the fire ban started. Women enjoy sitting around a fire having their drinks, especially ones with kids because its their relaxation time. I like having a fire for two reasons, warmth (when its cold) and cooking (who wants to use up the propane), rest of my time is doing stuff around camp or fishing/exploring with my boys.
