Title: Is trolling with herring allowed in the Tidal portion of the Fraser?
Post by: Dr. Backlash on July 23, 2013, 08:45:12 PM
Is trolling with herring allowed in the Tidal portion of the Fraser?  I think I know the answer to this but I just want to make sure. (Rod could you please clarify/confirm)?

Thanks in advance!

Honestly if you need clarification of the regs you should be calling the appropriate number to have them clarified as a member may give you the incorrect information and you will be held liable if caught breaking the law.

Johnny, honestly I call the lower Fraser DFO whenever I have regs questions and nobody is ever around to answer my questions.  So I leave a voicemail and not once have they called me back.  I've tried that route and its less effective than asking Rodney who is most knowledgeable when it comes to tidal Fraser regulations.

Thanks for the input though

This discussion came up a couple of months ago and I said that I would find out the exact regulation from those who manage the area. I just got the confirmation a few days ago actually and the answer is, there are no restrictions on using finfish as bait to target any fish species in the tidal portion of the Fraser River. So yes, you can troll with herring if you wish to.

That's what I thought.  Thanks for clarifying Rod!  Its much easier and way more effective to ask you about Regulations questions than hoping the lower Fraser DFO office will return my voicemails (only once have they ever called me back and that was years ago)

Cheers!

I live in Richmond, whenever I have questions about the regulations, I go to the DFO in Steveston (at the south end of No.1 Road) to clarify. They are willing to help, if they have a question, they call their supervisor immediately to confirm. The longest waiting time I have experienced for the confirmation was less than 15 minutes.
