Title: Vaseux Lake
Post by: rhino on July 19, 2013, 10:45:00 AM
HelLo!

Im staying at a cottage on Vaseux Lake for a week starting july 27. I have never fished this lake or done much bass fishing.

Any tips?

I have fly rods, bass flies and gear.

I would like to try and target all bass species and the rainbows in this lake. I think there may be some carp too that im looking forward to catching for the first time!

Thank you for you insight!
Rhino.

Do yourself a favour and look at the depth chart for the lake, you can eliminate a lot of bad water doing that.  Much of the lake is shallow and weed choked with little structure.
Hi Rhino, here is a bit of a summary of what you can expect.

North end = largemouth, no experience fishing for them in this lake but that is what I have been told.  Weeds = largemouth.
Middle or along rocky structure = smallmouth, may have to look deeper to find them over 10" or so.
Middle deep = trout and kokanee.  Middle of the summer they will most likely be deep and I would not expect much action.
Can probably find carp cruising in most places you look in that lake.

Please be aware the current at the outflow (if you choose to fish the oxbows) can be stronger than it looks and absolutely no motors of any kind are allowed on the lake.  Expect wind during the day consistently, don't put yourself in a dangerous position.  Dealing with whitecaps with only oars can be tricky.

Make sure you post a report when you get back too :)

I will look up the depth chart and map of the lake.
