Lafarge lake, Rod I watched you video on lafarge lake, good stuff by the way, you said that you converted your fly rod to a spinning rod, correct ?? I unfortunately snapped the end of my fly rod inthe car door a few weeks ago, thought I might do the same thing as i need a spinning rod for the lighter weight, mine is a 5-6 weight is that too light fot the conversion ??? What do yu think

It's not too light but I think he probably had the rod made from a fly rod blank not stripped down from an existing fly rod.

Generally a fly rod blank of X weight will translate to a spinning rod capable of tossing X/16 oz, so a 6wt blank is equivalent to 3/8oz.
The blank doesn't know if it should be a spinning rod or a fly rod, but they do have different characteristics. Typically a spinning rod is much faster action (i.e. has a thin tip and a fat butt) and this makes it easier to cast.
If your fly rod has its top snapped off that will make it significantly slower than it already is. It probably won't be much fun to fish with.
Stripping a fly rod down to turn it into a spinning rod is a lot of work, whereas you can pick up a no name fly or spinning blank quite cheaply that will result in a much better rod. Keep the broken fly rod for test wrapping and start new.

You can do it but won't be much fun to use as typhoon mentioned.
Spinning rods require fast action with sensitive tip to both feel the action of the lure and to do quick hooksetting.
Your rebuilt rod is going to lack both of these attributes.

i bough a hmx fenwick spinning rod, and its only 80$ in store, i think its a great rod and i used for 2 years without any problem. Its is a good choice if u want to get a new spinning rod :)

Thanks to all that responded, I did a little of my own research, added to what you guys recommended and bought a cheaper rod loacally made for exactlly what i require, thank you again soo much for the info. much appreciated. Now i just have to go and try it out, I was also casting improperly that diddnt help

I know that rod has a 4wt flyrod blank that he had made into a spinning rod, And that was my plan for my next spinning rod since I quite often find myself fishing a spinning reel on my 6wt fly rod more then my 7' shimano spinning rod.
