Even though I did not submit a response to this one, I too would have been incorrect as I would have submitted "greenling".  While I agree that I would not accept someone providing a generic "salmon" as a response to a coho or sockeye photo, that is only because the regulations themselves distinguish between the salmon species, therefore identification is necessary.  As far as I can tell, the regulation do not distinguish between greenling species, so as long as an angler can identify it as a greenling, it would not matter if it was a white spotted one or not.

I agree that having the exact greenling species name is not really relevant to the regulations as there is only one daily quota for all greenling species. I think the general public needs to know how to distinguish different species in non-salmon families. BC anglers emphasize so much on knowing our salmon, trout, steelhead, yet we seem to have very little interest in species that are little commercial or recreational value. That's my goal for these contests.

One of the submissions sums up the general poor attitude toward less known species in this province - "who cares - not a salmon or trout."
