Tried Rice lake in the afternoon since reading it was recently stocked, I was expecting some action. Took my son out with powerbait. Seems powerbait has stopped working at this lake. Used to get into many fish off the bottom, but the last 2 years, my powerbait seems to have lost its power.
We tried 2 locations on the lake. A few other fishermen around, but we didn't get a sniff and I didn't see anyone bring any to shore.
Did the hatchery change the fish food so that the scent of my bait doesn't work anymore? hmm. Would like to figure this out so my son and daughter can catch some fish. He said it was pretty boring to just sit there, to which I replied,"Catching some fish would help things."

Sometimes it takes a week or so for the fish to settle into the lakes after they are stocked and that's when fishing will start to pick up. Not a bad idea to try and hang something up near the top as well if you aren't having any luck down deep. Either use some powerbait under a bobber, or get some of those clear bubble floats and put a micro leech or chironomid under it. The nice thing about using those bubble floats is that you can cast and retrieve them as well, this might give your kids something to do while they are waiting for bites.

Thanks Colin. I will give it a try.

Maybe it's time to buy some fresh Powerbait? ;D

On the 29th, I missed 3 or 4 soft bites floating powerbait. The float wasn't completely taken down but was shaking. I switched to Gibbs Croc afterwards and hooked 2 and landed 1. Guy beside me limited out cast/retrieving a fly lure attached to a bubble float. Sometimes they like to chase I guess.

Try a single egg under a float with a slow retrieve
