Today the weather was just too beautiful to stay home, so I dusted the boat out of the locker room and took the short drive to Buntzen Lake. I arrived to this:

Spectacular scenery as usual. The bonus was that I pretty much had the lake to myself.
The water temperature was still quite low (44F on the surface), so the fishing was slow. It didn't matter, really, as I was there to enjoy the nice weather, smoke a cigar and take in the scenery.
I know Buntzen really well, so I knew where to look for fish. As a result, I did get into a few little guys...which were all returned to grow a bit more.

Maroon Carey special and black leech were the ticket. I did lose a few flies to submerged structure. I also lost a decent 14-incher by the boat.
The lake is lower than I had ever seen it. The dock in the south-east corner (by the off-leash dog area) is gone, but with the water being so low, there is plenty of access to the lake from the trails. I didn't see anyone catch fish from shore, though.
Still too early in the season. Give it a couple more weeks and it should pick up.
Nice to put the boat on the water, though, after being exactly six months in storage. :)

Either you have this huge hand, or those fish are pretty small.

Having shook Milo's hand more than a few times, I'd say both of those are true. LOL

;D
Too funny, Tex.
Yes, the fish were small (biggest was 9 inches), and my big paws sure didn't help to make them look bigger.

Water level today was high, right up to the ring etched into the rock around the lake. Consequently it was filthy with debris as all the dead fall from when it's low water, winds up floating, looked as though it was turning and took most of the day to sink and clear up. Fishing was very slow for me and the other boats I talked with. Didn't make it up the south channel today which may have been a mistake, as it's shallower in there and warmer water also.
