Does anyone know if there are herring at White Rock Beach?
I would like to try for them as there are not much fishing opportunities right now.

No.

I go to the pier often, at least 3 times a week. Sometimes I go there every day, even more than once a day. I have never seen anyone get  herring.

Are any of those people actually fishing for herring? And have you actually tried fishing for herring there?

I believe you can have as many hooks as you like if you fish for herring. I have never seen any one with that kind of setup. I have never fished herring. I believe herrings travel in schools. You would see them.

Sorry I did not say clearly: I go to the pier often for walking. Not fish every time. Now no one fishes there.

Oh, well, looks like my trip there will be flatfish only now.
But i'm still going to try (for a little bit) for herring. Never know, they could just be there!

Never try fishing for herring at White Rock, but I have seen people catching dog sharks there. If you want to catch herring from the shore, I've tried West Vancouver, Port Moody and West Richmond  (You can only use two hooks in Richmond). In the winter, you may easily catch over 30 fish in less than one hour if you get in contact with a big school of herring.

Try Horseshoe Bay. When I was a kid we used to jig herring off of the Gov. wharf there.

FYI, the floating dock and pier in Steveston (at the end of No. 1 Road) is currently closed due to construction until spring (so I've been told) in case anyone is considering going down there to jig for herring. Garry Point is a good alternative, but people have also encountered them further upstream at London's Landing and the No. 3 Road pier.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to catch herring around White Rock. Like any other schooling fish, they come and go, so the only way to find out is to put in the time. Actually, that's like any type of fishing...
