I have no answer to your first question, but as far as fishing Jones Lake in late May, my experience is that it is the best time of the year to fish it.

I use to go diving in there for crayfish all the time in the summer.
Strap on a pair of goggles and flip over rocks along the beach and you'll get a good meals worth.

Some of the biggest crayfish I have ever seen are in that lake... and yup, they are SUPER tasty!
Never actually fished the lake though.... so I guess between Milo and I you get all your answers!

Cheers,
Dan

I can only answer the fishing part.
It's been good to me , as long as you can get there you should catch.

Drove to the lake , some years back ,and the road was quite bumpy & steep.

Is there a launch some where on this lake ?
From where we were the shoreline had lots of debris.
Guess it is strictly a small boat & outboard or canoe type watercraft.

Did not have much time to explore as it was more of " take a quick look at the lake" & drive back to the hwy.

Great fishing lake, lots of fish, and you can catch them a bunch of different ways. If you go be mindful of the size restriction. As for boats there is a boat launch just after you cross the first creek that empties into the lake. I have seen big boats(24 footer) launch there but have only personally launched a 16 foot boat and also my kayak from there.

never gotten any crayfish from there, but we fish the lake quite a bit during may and july, theres a lot of smaller fish, lots of fun on light gear, and if you are lucky you can find some big cutties in there.
