Chris just called me and asked me to post that his truck was just stolen from a Sardis church parking lot. The vehicle was spotted by an angler heading up the Chilliwack River valley. The police have been notified and Chris is now on the Chilliwack Lake road checking to see if it comes back this way.
There will be lots of stuff in the back and passenger seat; hard to miss, really.
Oh, and plastered with Salmo are Sacred stickers.
Seriously, having had my truck stolen in the past I understand how frustrating this is.
Anyone with info please call Chilliwack police
-
Dave, not sure if we should leave Chris' phone number on the forum. Might be best for people to phone Chilliwack RCMP?
-
That totally sucks ! Hope Chris gets his truck back with no damage.

Sorry Rod. You are totally right.
-
Wow very unfortunate to hear. I didn't see it as I was coming down from the upper this morning but a lot of people know the leaf mobile so hopefully it turns up in one piece.
-
Hope you get your truck back Chris and I also hope whomever stole it is given what he deserves. So sad that one can't even go to church these day's without worrying if something you own will be stolen. >:( :'( >:(
-
Shoot !!!! :o :o :o
That is a bummer.
Can just imagine coming out of the church after singing worship songs & then look to see zero truck where ya thought it was parked .
A quick look about & yep the truck has vanished.
Enough to turn one's inners like a gator in a roll.
And stealing from a church parking lot is very low indeed ; like stealing a old man's cane.
The thief will reap what was sown.
Hope they find your truck soon. :)
A person's wheels are like a cowboy's horse. ( ya know what happened to a horse thief many moons ago )
-
We and others looked all afternoon in the area it was last seen thanks to others that did some searching as well.
-
hope you get it back chris. :'(
-
Rumour is the future trading plans of the leaves was in the truck, as well as some Gadsden/ Burke correspondence regarding Luongo. Mike Gillis is joining the search tomorrow ...
And you know I'm hoping this turns out better than it could Chris ... see you tomorrow.

So the leafs are giving us empty cans & bottles for Luongo?
Boy oh boy we are are ripping the leafs off lol
Hopefully they find your truck Chris, there is a LOT of gravel road in those mountains that the truck could have gone up. How much fuel was in the tank?

Half a tank. Yes there is many roads up there. Need to get a plane and fly over the area like the chap that had his loader stolen in Vancouver and found it up at Whistler spotting it from the air from his plane.
-
Would be a lot harder to spot a little grey pickup compared to a huge yellow excavator. Was the truck 4 wheel drive? A 2 wheel drive would be limited with the snow on some of the FSR's up there as well.
-
2 wheel, yes the side road where icy when we looking yesterday.
-
that sucks balls Chris
having had my first truck stolen and my second truck broken into for an attempted theft i know how this feels. from a church parking lot though ! now thats one special kind of idiot ::)
hope you get your truck back
HOOK - knock on wood that my current truck has been left alone
-

Chris, you are hunter, you should be able to deal with this.... ;D :D

I don't understand how it could have been stolen.
It should have an immobilizer system in it which would prevent it from starting even if the steering column was smashed.

I just took a small motors course this weekend...
You'd be surprised how easy it is to hot-wire a vehicle or other motor. If you know what each wire colour represents it ain't all that hard.
I'm pretty sure his car wouldn't have had an immobilizer, that is normally an after market thing.

If it was a 1998 or later GM product it would likely have an immobilizer. Ford apparently didn't believe in them till recently.

Fords use SecuriLock also known as PATS (passive anti theft system). It uses transponders in the keys that respond with the vehicles ECM. It is VERY hard to bypass even by a very good experienced thief, and especially by someone that took a small motors coarse ;)
As far as Rangers go, some 99-04 Rangers came with PATS (most of the V6s I think) and every one has it from 06 to current models.
-
Mine had just standard keys as far as I know, nothing special when I got them cut.????
-
I hope you find your truck soon. Miss seeing you at the fishing spot in the morning.

I was just saying, on a basic model vehicle it isn't very hard. All motors work the same.
All about wiring and finding the cut off switch (which is the ground). You find that and disconnect it and it'll fire up.
As Chris said, most vehicles don't come with an immobilizer or anything like that.
Not saying I could or would do it, but the reason so many vehicles get stolen is it is easier than most people think (once again on base line older vehicles).

I have a 1999 GMC, it don't have anything special. Can go get a key cut and start it no problem. No anti-theft, etc.

You have power locks?
-
hey chris, i'll be in the Chwk river valley some time this week, I can check all the area's i know of where people ditch stolen vehicles, (both up tamahi mtn, and chipmunk creek FSR) I'll have my 4x4 so i can make it past any part your truck would have. I know the feeling of coming out to get your truck and find it missing, I found my last jeep comanche at the bottom of a hill on its roof on Foley lake FSR after it was stolen, and the last time i was there a 2wd could have easily made it a good way into the chipmunk creek FSR.
-

Nope.
-
Sorry to hear it Chris. Hope you find your LM soon.

Thanks very much, Lew, Terry, Gord and my wife along with me have checked some areas along the Chilliwack Lake Road (up as far as Chilliwack Lake) but not any side roads off of the Bench Road.
Also thanks for all the help, ideas and thoughts from so many of you.Has been a bummer the last 2 days but of course there is worse things can happen in ones life but still a pain. Also had my 2 brood capture tubes in the truck. :-[
-
Sorry to hear this Chris.
Who needs that during prime time.
Oh well, maybe its a sign to get a Canuckmobile now. ;D
-
the FSR running along chilliwack lake road is stiff enough to drive on with all the sleds running through there and such, but they wouldnt have made it far since there is a tree crossing the road a few hundred feet in, we had our jeeps and rangers out there a week or so ago.
also was your ranger an auto or 5spd? because if it was a 5spd, then they could have just pulled the ignition out, connected two wires and bump started it. and its quite easy to get into the rangers with manual locks, we have had to do it twice (break in, and hotwire / bumpstart a 2003 ranger) because my friend can't keep control of his keys.
Have you checked the mt slesse area? there are a few places it could be hiding in there as well
-
Auto, we checked a few of the roads you mention but a number are snow covered and ice. Met a fellow yesterday on one road, he had been stuck for 3 hours.
Of course there is a small chance they are still driving it or have it at their residence, so many scenarios
Thanks for your tips.
-
Chris you're lucky it has turned up like the Nissan Xterra I filmed burning at the side of the road below Cedars a couple years ago. I just couldn't believe no one saw anyone set it on fire cause there were people fishing all over the place.
-
Hopefully the pick up did not land into a chop shop.
Engine ,tires, muffler, c. converter on & on.
Maybe a wild shot but it worked for me.
While living in Sk. in the latter 70s ( & the locals said the winter was one of the worst in 30 years; winter conditions from Oct 5 to about April 24. Extreme cold & 4 - 5 major snow storms , white out conditions , sometimes solid black ice ; very unforgettable experience )my veicle was stolen.
It is like yesterday. Remember so clearly.
Walked up & looked where it should be parked & it was not there. :o
Thus ya tell the police etc...
Two days later I called every tow truck co. in the city & asked the dispatch if they towed so & so veicle on this date from this location & if they did please tell the police.
Well two days later I think it was "ring ring " the police found my veicle!!!
A tow truck company called them & gave them the address where they towed my car.
The police drove there & there was the guy in the driveway doing needed repairs.
In court the guy said that I was getting a better car back because he put in a new battery on & on.
He thought my car had no owner as it had not moved for weeks. ( well I left it parked because my veicle heater was not so great & in example -30 -40 & wind it was just too cold to use )
But who knows ...possibly the thief had your truck towed ?
Maybe while the choir sang the tow truck got your truck on the tow ?
So called owner gave driver a quick line.
Odds are it was not towed but I think it's worth to check the possibility.
Worked for me.

That reminds me of an incident that happened several years ago. My friend and I were going to fish the Vedder and since he lived in Coquitlam and I lived in Surrey, we met at the 176 exit where he parked his vehicle while we drove in mine. On our return, his vehicle was gone.
A report was filed and while he waited for the 30 days for the ICBC stolen vehicle waiting period, he drove a rental car. About 2 weeks after the theft we met again, this time he parked his vehicle on my driveway and we went fishing. At the end of the day we joked with each other that it would be funny if his vehicle was sitting where he had originally parked..... Imagine the shock when we drove by the 176 exit spot and there was his vehicle. Other than a broken ignition and a pried open gas cap the vehicle was in reasonable condition. The police were very surprised that it had been returned. A few repairs, and he continued to drive the vehicle for several more years.
Have you checked the church parking lot Chris? :D

There probably using your truck to pick up stuff for the food bank. ::)
Hope you get it back in one piece. Can give you a good deal on a unused car alarm. Easy install. Bought two when they were on sale. My vehicles have been broken into so many times. Now they see the flashing alarm and leave it alone. My 2010 Mazda B2300 came with the disabler but no alarm. I think the Ranger got the disabler as a standard feature in 2009.
