Title: Facebook just got more interesting today
Post by: Rodney on January 14, 2013, 12:59:04 PM
If you have been following the colourful sharkfin soup discussion, you would have noticed that we've recently removed a bug. ;) Whenever we ban someone, I am well aware of the possibility of consequences, so this one isn't so surprising. Please support his cause because any Facbeook page deserves more than one fan. ;D

I currently have a team of lawyers who are putting together a strategy to dispute the fact that I am small. Testimonials from Nina will be available shortly.

This is the individual behind the page BTW.

I don't agree with banning Ed from the forum just because he has a different opinion, or is annoying.
But there may be more to it that I know, so I'll just shut up.

But this is page is BS, I reported it and if a few more people report it, FB will probably take it down.

If you are making enemies you must be doing something right  ;)

Ouch....weird thing is that he has friends that are friends of mine but I do not know this guy! I may not agree with some of the things that are allowed and not allowed on this site but for the most part you Rod have been really fair!

Why was he banned? That may show how pathetic this guy is!

It's not so much that he has a different opinion. The guy actually has some valid views, and has been on the forum since 2004, but in the past couple of years, he has chosen to use his privileges by going against everyone else's opinion on every topic just so he could get a rise out of people. I was waiting for him to stop, but he kind of just ran out of time... ;)

I would hope that the vast majority wouldn't even give him 2 seconds of their time, as the page is a complete joke.  It would be akin to a 12 year old posting that Santa is a fraud and should be avoided.  I mean really?

I have a lot of respect for Ed's write-ups to defend the Chinese cultural dish of shark-fin soup, but this FB page is way out of line. Sorry to see that. He should not be banned from taking his strong stance on preservering our cultural dish just because it is not politically correct. Perhaps he should be warned first about improper use of words. But no one should be banned for participating in a debate forum unless vulger terms and personal attacks were used even after repeated warnings. Otherwise people will feel intimidated to go against the political correct view taken by the debate forum and the debate will lose its meaning.

Yep, no one's banned for expressing their opinions. That's why you haven't been banned liketofish. ;)

We rarely ban anyone these days actually. You'd have to push the limit quite a bit to be kicked off.

Lets take a machete, chop a dozen dogs noses off, then toss them back into the streets or park, where ever we found the dogs, make a casserole with said noses, and then you tell me its "politically incorrect" and not straight up wrong. Politically incorrect terms, jokes, and ideas dont cause suffering and wasted lives. I agree with what you are saying, in essence. But the words you are using are not accepting the responsibility of the actions and consequences they cause.

Obviously  ::) Too bad for them that once the species is gone their cultural dish is gone any ways, but no one thinks logically these days  :-X
Probably would be good to invest in buying 10 or so of these fins for 10 or so years down the road when none or left - talk about $$$

It's not the size of the man but the size of his heart and with Rodney, what you see isn't all you get. I'm sorry to see it come to this and I think it's pretty ridiculous for Ed to post all that on Facebook but hey, it's a free country. As far as the Sharkfin soup dish issue I've never commented on it but I'm a strong believer in culture and preserving a way of life and seeing as this has been discussed to death with other members I'll leave it at that.

I do know that since I've been a member on FWR I've always been treated with respect and cordiality by Rod and the moderator's. In fact I hardly even notice the mod's are there, they do such a good job. I hate when I hear a member has been banned but at the same time I wouldn't want the mod's and Rod's job running the forum and keeping everyone in line. Must be tough at times to be sure.

I hope cooler head's prevail and all the mudslinging stops. Were not politicians and this is a family oriented discussion forum where we should all learn, laugh and love. Well maybe love is a little extreme, how about live. Yeah, Live !!!

It's not only his stance on touchy cultural issues. It was the predjudice and racial comments that were prevalent through out his posts. Debate is always welcome. The garbage that came out of his mouth regarding Canadian groups and culture is Better kept to himself.

By Posting that FB page, it makes me wonder if he's mentally disturbed and should be left alone?  Shark Fin has no taste and I wouldn't miss it if they ban it.  I love the rest of the soup that surrounds the shark fin.

What are you saying A? Am I really that small??? ;D

FYI, this individual seems to be proactive on telling the interweb that he has been banned yet we have taken his subscription money. He has never been a paid subscriber... If he has subscribed, then it expired long ago already because he certainly is not in our current database list. He's welcome to contact me and have the rest of his subscription refunded by showing me a receipt.

The closest he has come to subscribing is asking about it because he couldn't pay online due to being banned by PayPal.

This refundable policy does not apply to fish assassin if you are reading this BTW, I've already used your money to buy AYCE sushi long ago... ;)

It's an easy way for anyone to attack this website without any accountability. I guess if you want to be as popular as The Bieb, you gotta earn a few crazies to follow you around. :-\ ;D

brownmancheng sums it up nicely why he was banned. When you push it far enough in this community, it is time for you to go.

All this over shark fins soup??? Plenty of things to eat out there and to stop consuming shark's fin in order to save the species, I am all for it.

Who give a damn about cultures or traditions!!!!!

That was meant as a compliment Rod, you know that and I did see the smiley face. Hell, I'm not much bigger than you at only 5 ft. 8 inches tall and soaking wet at 170 lbs. And in reference to the brownmancheng saying I would add, just like the old Kung Fu TV show :

http://www.facebook.com/pages/fishingwithrodcom-is-a-SCAM/222364461234242?fref=ts&filter=2

An internet troll is like a fly. It's annoying. Sometimes you wave it off a few times and it flies away. Other times, it needs to be smacked.

Every now and then, we get a colourful individual on our discussion forum. Some choose to be abrasive until their welcome wears off. When I ban a participant from the discussion forum, I am well aware of the possible consequences. He or she will either accept it, or let out all the frustration that has been building inside. That's what trolls do, they are unhappy with whatever it is in their life, be it family, work, or just general social challenges, so they come into the world of anonymity and hope to pass their grief to others.

Ed joined the forum many years ago. His posts were never a problem, until he decided to get into these heated debates. He knew exactly how to tick people off when he does not agree with their opinions. Be it racial, political, environmental, he knew where to press the button. He certainly ticked me off so after being quite patient with this individual, it was time to let him go. Some seem to be confused by their presence on our discussion forum. Your participation here is a privilege. Voicing your opinion here is not a right. We pay for the bills, we get to decide who should stay here. It is as simple as that.

Once Ed, or Eddy Chau (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=15.msg34524#msg34524), was banned, it didn't surprise me to find him attempting to rejoin the forum.

By using the email provided, it was pretty easy to eliminate all anonymity by Facebook these days.

It didn't surprise me to find this on our Facebook page soon after, with a different profile of course. Who wants to be accountable for anything slanderous being posted on the internet?

It's also a good idea to use a slightly different name to cover one's behind, but all trails should be covered.

A little snoop around, anyone who wishes to be successful in his or her career these days shouldn't be too hard to get in touch with.

Our Eddy, is not a contractor as claimed after all, but a real estate agent who seems to have a bit of spare time as the Vancouver market tapers off slightly.

A more recent listing shows his contact information and employer.

http://www.realtor.ca/PropertyDetails.aspx?&PropertyId=12728720&PidKey=-1513301064&Mode=0

Somehow, we doubt Eddy is as "opinionated" in real life.

In real life, it is unlikely he would proactively point out that white people are lazy and he is glad that people in China is taking over Vancouver. In real life, it is likely that he would keep his homophobic views to himself. In real life, it is also unlikely that he would publish others' photographs and present them out of context. In real life, it is also unlikely, that he would publicly suggest someone has stolen $20 from him without any proof.

Don't take the comfort of the internet for granted.

Rod & this site FWR has always had 99% good reviews & good things said about him.

When a member gets banned it hurts but if there is a reason then so be it.

The guy is somehow trying to return the hurt I assume.
At this point & time emotions have been vented & best thing is to just drop it & go on.

Rod & I'm sure the other chap just do not need the negative energy.
Life has it's challenges without the negative stuff.

Rod is a new father & also running a popular site like this takes energy.
Best thing the Good Book says in conflict is to let love & forgiveness be the answer.
( know that the Good Lord loves Rod & his family & He loves the other guy too!!!)

Hope for everyone's peace of mind the negative stuff stops.

Eyes are the window to the soul & you & Nina always have " sparkling eyes " & easy smiles.

Ok then let me grade ya & FWR with an "A" !!!  ( where did I get that idea? )

Like your fishing vids & how ya always are so positive & glass is always 1/2 full ( not 1/2 empty )
Thinking of the times the guide said that it was a slow day but ya were appreciative for the fish & sights that was caught & seen.
( storms in life pass away & sunny warm weather ahead... all involved in my prayers )

Thumbs up all the way !!!
