I've though about this before and never had it happen personally. Yesterday I had a coho chase my fly for about 10 feet and grab it, saw it chase it, open it's mouth and take it. But then it got wrapped in the leader and when I tailed it, the hook was in the tail. Must have popped out when it got wrapped and got hooked. I released it and kept fishing. This counts as a snagged fish right? Some guy a few years ago had the same thing happen to him but on gear and he bonked it, said it was ok to do so but I didn't agree.

My opinion is that it was a biting fish, however it was able to spit the hook. So then it was free again however due to it being wrapped up in the line it then became a snagged fish when it tried to free itself from the entanglement. lol better to just release it than run the risk of being in the wrong.

It was hooked and lost and then snagged due to being wraped. It's unfortunate but i think it counts as a foul hooked fish. If DFO was there I'm sure they would see it as a foul hooked.

Had that happen with a steelhead in the Vedder last year.
I wouldn't kill one that was brought in that way... but I'd still take a pic with it as I count it as a biting fish :P

Well, that's very exciting to see that coho actually chase and grab your fly. I've had it happen with spoons a few times. . Once , I saw a steelhead grab my float , should have put a hook on my float, lol. Your fish though would be counted as a snagged fish. Your memory of that fish chasing your fly will stay with you the rest of your life. And that's priceless.
