Hi,
I am preparing for fishing for salmon in Vedder river. I searched the internet and found a rod: Shimano CSC100H2B, 10', power - heavy, action - moderate, 10-30lb, lure weight 1-6 oz. The weight of the rod is only 238g.
I image that it is stiff being supporting 3 oz lure. Is it too stiff for float fishing with a spinner?
I have read articles and the forum. When suggesting rod, all are about length and line rating, nobody mentions about lure rating. Is lure rating important?
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

looks fine. I use a similar trolling rod for float fishing and its ok. For float fishing though I'm sure there are more suitable rods. That one is a salmon/steelhead casting rod but the 1-6 oz is interesting.. probably designed for bottom fishing as well. You might use 1 oz weight on your float but 6 oz for plunking. I recommend going to the tackle store and trying out the different rods they have and see what you like, especially when starting out for the first time. Stay within the lure rating. If you go too heavy on a light lure rod I guess you might have warranty issues if something happens. Also your casting distance won't be as good.

The rod you mention would be considered too heavy for most as the Shimano 10-20 is the norm for most and many would fish lighter than that.

i like the ultra light or light canadein method fantastic rod i pare it with a shiamno canen great rod and reall and i have cuagth up to 25 pound sprigs on both rods

That's a bit too heavy for the Vedder Wjlz. Now don't get me wrong, it will still work but a heavy rod will not feel the light bites of fish as readily. Not all fish chomp and take off so using a lighter rod gives you a much better advantage and more opportunity to enjoy the fight of the fish.

One advantage of a heavier rod is it'll be stronger and more resistant to breakage. I was fishing a casting rod rated 10 to 20lb and hooked in a huge chum probably around 17 lbs. The rod tip just snapped off as I was landing it. It may also be my bad technique that broke it, but who knows :)
