Title: Chilliwack River, October 21st 2012
Post by: Brian the fisherman on October 21, 2012, 12:54:23 PM
I went out early and the rain had not destroyed the river as I thought it might.
Decent clarity considering the last night rain.

Hit up my favorite spot and only a few others were joining me.
We had a bit of a chat about the season, each others luck. Shared some smoked salmon and moved on to the run.
With a lot of chum swimming near shore I decided to cast a single jensen egg with a tuft of white/peach wool into the meet of 2 streams. nice and slow drift and first cast I hooked into a Big wild buck coho. Quite an acrobatic fella and with the faster current it felt more like a small spring than a coho.
Got a few good runs out of it as the pool I tried to land him in just wasn't his style and he pulled me down river into the faster current. Got my feet wet but let him go rather quick.
The hook just flew out and caught on my jacket as he took off.
Fished the run for about 30 more min and the rain sure came on heavy. My fingers were cold from fiddling around in the water already and the rain wasn't helping
Since cold and wet already I put on a bit of roe I just cured and first chuck into the water I hit a chrome spring doe about 10 or so lbs. She fought like a tank and also pulled me far down river with the current at her aid.
Not as much energy in her as the coho but tired her out quick and brought her to shore.
With a bit of a revive needed I released her into the water to finish the cycle.
Then a wonderful thought popped into my head. Tim hortons coffee time.
Cleaned up my mess and brought a bag worth of empty beer tins and some more garbage included and headed home.
Now its time to remove my salmon from the brine from the night earlier, dry out for a couple hours and turn on the smoker.

Hope you all had a wonderful sunday as mine was spectacular  ;D
Tight lines
-Brian

I was out yesterday, upper mid river water clarity was about 2 feet and was able to land 4 hatchery and 3 wilds on roe. My first Coho limit day on the Vedder in awhile.

Great day for me too.

Hit six coho on the fly, lost three, landed three. One hatch will grace our dinner table tomorrow.
All the fish were very spirited. Gotta love that on the fly.

The weather was perfect, but on the cold-ish side. The crowds were concentrated in the usual spots,  so lot of river for me.

Can't wait to go again.

 ;D

FishingKing, that's awesome! I haven't had a 4-hatchery day yet this year, and probably won't. (Standing at three, so not bad. )

Thanks! 3 is good to, and like you said you gotta get away from the crowds. It's nice to be able to fish with no one around you or to be able to fish away from the rippers.

Hey Fishing king. Nice work.

I was fishing roe today but didn't have any luck. Mine was out of the freezer but off a doe from a few weeks ago. Just curious how old your roe was?

Cheers.

Went out as well on sunday. managed to beach 2 gorgeous coho females and a clean chum female weighing at least 15lbs ;D. released 3 beauty wild coho with care. Lost a BIG chinook and wrestled with 11 brute chum bucks. Epic day on the system and good luck out there!

I tend to make up a lot of roe for the various fisheries and seasons. I was having a lot of problems with roe drying out from being frozen so long. Two years ago I started vacuum sealing it. It has made a world of difference. I've used roe frozen for up to 10 months and it now looks like the day I cured it. It has made a world of difference in effectiveness for fishing.

What can I say its been a good week :D im  lucky I live 10 mins away from the tidal portion of the Fraser. Roe has been working wonders for me this year. 12 hatchery cohos in the last 5 days for me from the vedder and fraser combined. Use quality roe!
