Title: Chilliwack Valley, October 5th 2012
Post by: clarki on October 05, 2012, 06:35:38 PM
My son and I were up early this morning. It was a slow day for us but we landed 2 wilds. The biggest one we retained, the other went back.

I don't understand why one would say wild's unless he was referring to coho due to the hatchery program..
There are hatch springs on the very rare occasion but never seen anyone sit there and target just hatch springs. because they would be there longer than an entire steelhead season..

This is a very ominous post and hope the OP will clear this up shortly.

To clarify...My son and I were up early for a day hike to Greendrop Lake in the Chilliwack Valley. We caught 2 wild rainbow trout and retained one for fire roasted shore lunch. The other fish we released.

My apologies if my original post was unclear.  ;D

One noteworthy wildlife encounter was a weasel scurrying about in the rocks and getting close to my son, checking him out. Can't recall seeing one in the wild BC before.

I caught one last week, at first thinking it was a hatch coho.  It was first light, so it was a bit difficult to see, plus the fish was a bullet.  But it turned out to be a hatch spring jack.  The odour gave it away!!!

This photo of a hatch nookie released back in the 2008 season should help.  Now you've seen one!   :D

Hmm that's pretty cool. I didn't think the hatcheries were clipping chinook anymore...thought that was an 'american' thing, lol
