Today in the lower canal :o I was following about 6 wild hoes up the canal when they got spooked and booked it back down toward the highway bridge. Walking back down I saw some large swirls and the largest of the coho just came ripping back up the canal with a seal in hot pursuit. I could not believe how fast the seal was traveling, literally as fast as the fish could swim, running speed. I though no way is he gonna catch it. Watch the end of the vid to see what happened. As if gin clear dirt low water and sunshine was not enough to kill the bite!! add a ravenous seal to the mix. ::)

Later that day he was hooked in the tail, brought in backwards, dragged on to the rocks and bonked. The person who bonked him insisted he was a spring jack ;)

Did you get its consent to post this video??? ;D ;D ;D
Nice! The other day we were a bit further up and I was convinced that the thrashings at a tailout were just fish pulling back or pushing through as first light as they usually do in low water conditions. We never saw the seal came up for air, otherwise I would have brought out the telephoto lens to document the hunt. Next time. :)

Hope you called RAPP!

What video ? Not working
-
Sorry to lazy to go through the regs but could I go in the river and chase the coho? Imagine if everybody on the vedder fished that way... ;D is it really poaching?

I was just served papers Rod! Apparently the seal feels that this video is defamatory, stating that it was a Hatchery fish and he would never even harass a wild fish much less kill one :P.

Ive always thought seals were only in salt water.but what are the chances of training that guy to pool the fishes for you?
-
Well the presence of a seal in the canal must mean there is some nice fish moving through so thats a good sign lol.

Aww and here I thought I was going to be able to reply with a similar story of the bozo ripping continuously through a school of coho at Cable Pool. Tall white male tattoo on neck FWIW ;)
