All I can say is, WE NEED RAIN. Really low and a fraction of the fish compared to this time last year. Lots of boats out including ours. This no parking thing really sucks. Thanks to the jet boats for swamping everyone, we all so enjoy it. ::)

The stave water level is controlled. Did you go inside the river? I guess it might be too early but nice to see a report now.
-
Really I had no idea... I did go inside the river, I was wearing waders ;D They've drawn down Hayward to a third level so it doesn't look good for them letting out anything substantial.
-
I only saw a couple of chum near the mouth and they were being chased by a seal. Caught a small trout, but that was it.
-
Was there yesterday as well - by boat. Quite of number of people on the West side (less than your standard gong show) - very few on the East. Saw only a couple of fish caught which were released as their colors were quite prominant.
Water levels very low - so much that the spawning bed did not have the typical overflow streaming into the toilet bowl. Did not get a chance to see the actual water levels in the spawning bed.
The only 'clean' fish I saw were a couple of dead ones on the bottom of the river (low and clear) while we were boating around looking for a spot where we could safely beach and get out as it was near high tide. Still early. The number of chum coming in must be heading further up river.
-
Are they allowing parking on the west side, use to be able to park along side the road . If they are not allowing you to pull off the road for parking where are people parking to fish? I didn't make it over there last year so not sure what the parking is like.
-
I found a spot where the chums were rolling yesterday, but they won't touch the jigs?! Last year, they couldn't get enough of the jigs. I saw about 10 fish landed in this spot and all chrome. I wish I had some roe with me.

People are parking on the west side where there is NO shoulder, making driving interesting for the locals Im sure.
I fished for an hour prior to hitting the local rivers day events, even at high water is super low and clear still.
Saw almost no fish, a Ton of big boats looking for roe perhaps and lots of people parked at the highway bridge

The locals can walk on the no Parking side where there is a wide shoulder. The west side has a shoulder but it's uneven, so your left tire is higher up than your right tire. They do have a parking lot further up the road, just past the dam.

They are parking on the very edge of the road, making drivers swerve around them ...
I did the walk up to the bowl today.Got a warning of a sow and 4! cubs as i was heading in, didnt see them sadly
a few dark fish around , low and slow still

Perhaps before people start posting spots where to park it might be nice to enjoy the river while it's semi quiet and make the snaggers and meat fishermen work to find parking and make their way to the river. Usually the guys who go to a river to fish legit don't have a problem hiking to a spot. Just remember if you post a spot where to park there's a good chance you won't be able to park there anymore because it will be taken.

You've got point. I suspect during peak season, the long walk will be even longer because the closer spots will be full! Carrying 30+ lbs of fish, fishing gear for 1/2 hour is going to get pretty tiring. Shopping cart time! May be bc hydro will provide a few in the parking lot, just like Safeway :)
-
I was trying to point out where not to park lol
Im the guy on his bike anyway, or will be when the fishin picks up...
-
Perhaps the locals would start up a shuttle to earn some extra money for Christmas

I know she's good women, she gets upset sometimes as she loves to fish aswell, she did mention I should drop her off,Ha Ha Ha ! Most times we do fish together.
-
2fly can you ask your wife to talk to my wife ;)
not to drop me off and pick me up but to go fishing with me :-\
says she hates fishing yet she has never been out with me, she only tried fishing once in the UK and got bored :(
As for the Stave
I do like to hit that river now and then to try my luck with some of the fresher Chum
i find that a short float with jig or spinner works well for fresh fish
may give it a try in a week or so

Lots of parking today, legit parking.Close by parking.
Ten minute walks are good for you BTW.
Lots of people today, mostly long liners as usual.Crazy low water farther up too.
Saw one beaut hatch coho on the beach, but it must have tasted terrible as the seal only took one small bite from the poor doe!
Waves of chum at the mouth today, waves and waves.Kind of dark looking , they may be waiting to go up farther...
Saw very few 2? hooked and one flossed.
